A CHURCH IN TRANSITION

ACTS CHAPTERS 11-15

1. Chapter 11 – A Church on the Move

• How did the church at Jerusalem take Peter’s report that the Gentiles had received the Gospel? (11:1-18).

• How was the church at Antioch established (11:19-30).

2. Chapter 12 – Persecution, Death and Deliverance

• Why did Herod the king persecute some who belonged to the church? What did he do to Peter and what was his intentions? What happened to Peter while he was imprisoned? How was he delivered? What made his deliverance so unusual that the Church at first could not believe it? Do we react the same way sometimes when God does a miracle for us? (12:1-19).

• How did God judge King Herod? What happen after Herod’s death? (12:20-25).

3. Chapter 13 – Missionary Movements of the New Church

• As you read verse one you will notice the list of names of the leaders of the church. Their names, places they were from, and positions they held indicate that the church at Antioch was diverse both ethically and socially. A beautiful picture of how God brings together different people to make up His church. (13:1-3).

• Who sent these missionaries out? What opposition did Paul face at Paphos? How did Paul deal with this person? What was the results of Paul’s actions? (13:4-12).

• Where was the first place Paul and his companions would go when they came to new territories? (13:13-15).

• What message would they preach or teach at the synagogue? How did the people respond? (13:16-43).

• Why did the Jews get jealous of Paul and Barnabas? What did they accuse Paul of? What did Paul do in response to their accusations? What happen to Paul and Barnabas because of their preaching to the Gentiles? (13:44-52).

4. Chapter 14 – Acceptance and Opposition of the Gospel

• What happened in Iconium? What was the reception of the Gospel? (14:1-7).

• At Lystra, when Paul healed a cripple, who did the people mistake Paul and Barnabas for? What was Paul and Barnabas’s response? (13:8-18)

• What happened to Paul when the Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived? What did Paul do after this incident? (14:19-28).

5. Chapter 15 – The Council at Jerusalem

• Why did the disciples gather at Jerusalem, and what were they discussing? (15:1-12)

• Who defended the cause of the missionaries? What was the final outcome of their decision in regard to the conversion of Gentiles? (15:13-35)

• What led to the division of Paul and Barnabas when they started out on the second missionary journey? What was the results of this division? (15:36-41).
