Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains, so that I may make it known as I should. Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
Introduction: Worship through evangelism. What is evangelism? The act of sharing the Good News. 1st importance…
For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Sharing the Gospel wasn’t just a good idea to Paul and others. These were people who were willing to put their life on the line for this. This was the very central thing to their lives. Throughout the Scriptures we see that no matter what the situation was there was always a mandate to reach the world with the truth of the Gospel.
Background: Paul opens this letter with letting the church at Colossae know that he was praying for them and their spiritual growth. As he closes this letter he commissions them to devote themselves to prayer and to stay alert in prayer with thanksgiving. But he also ask for prayer. Now we must remember that Paul is on house arrest at this time. However he is not pleading for his release. Instead he ask them to pray that God would open a door for the gospel to be preached.

The Mystery of Christ
How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
We must proclaim the Gospel. We are all preachers in this sense. We live in a fallen world that needs to hear about a living Saviour. (open doors) (highlight aspect of our fallen world and why the Good News is needed).
There are many methods we can use (pamphlets, outreach, mission, service, individual and corporate)
Preparation
Preparation
Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
Get out of the holy huddle and get around some people.
dont conform to them but be a light of the Gospel to them and for them.
From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective. Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective, yet now we no longer know him in this way. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
