In the same way, when someone says they are a Christian, we expect some things from them.
“Religion” is the outward proof of our worship of God.
How can we prove with our lives that we are the children of God?
I. Par la bouche (v. 26)
I. Par la bouche (v. 26)
The Bible says that if my mouth is not affected by my faith, then something is broken, somewhere.
Installing my baseboard heater…wired but doesn’t work. It’s not really “installed”.
Even if someone says that they are a believer, if the result is not visible, something isn’t right there.
If you say you are a believer, but your mouth is out of control, something isn’t working.
If you could catch this week’s words in a jar, what would they look like?
II. Par nos mains (v. 27)
II. Par nos mains (v. 27)
One thing that sets a believer apart from others is how he treats those who are not as fortunate as he is. In Bible times, widows and orphans didn’t have the government nor anyone else.
But the truth remains the same: we have people around us who need someone.
I can’t tell you who the “widows” and “orphans” are around you. But let me put it this way: A true disciple of Jesus serves somebody.
1 John 3:11-18
III. Par nos choix de vie (v. 27)
III. Par nos choix de vie (v. 27)
A Christian whose life is identical to the life of those around him should wonder about his “religion”…his worship of God.
By “the world”, we mean those who don’t love God and who don’t serve Him. Those who do the opposite of what pleases God. Our society is largely made up of their works, their songs, their ideas, their art, etc.
4 steps in the New Testament in become worldly:
Being a friend of the world (James 4:4)
Loving the world (1 John 2:15-17)
Being like the world—conformed (Romans 12:1-2)
Being condemned with the world (1 Cor. 11:32)
