In the beginning, God had a plan and a place for people. And He wanted to be there with us.

Genesis 1:1–2 NIV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Genesis 2:8,15-17
Genesis 2:15–17 NIV
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

The Garden of Eden was God’s first plan for humanity. We were designed to be with God - always there, and everything we need.

The Fall

Genesis 3:4–5 NIV
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

In the beginning - we wanted to BE God instead of wanting to be WITH God.

Nowadays - we still battle God for control in everything we do. We seem to always prioritize...

Our own motivations
Our own plans
Our own goals
Ultimately, Our own spot on the throne.
Here’s the big thing -

Our lives are not just our own. In the Garden and in the cross - we belong to God.

Psalm 100:3 NIV
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Galatians 2:20 NIV
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

The Rescue Plan

The entire rest of the bible serves to answer this one question - How is God going to fix this?
Genesis 3:15 NIV
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
