In thinking through which elements of the Pentecostal Wheel I am currently exposed to, Inclusivity stood out boldly for me.
I attend Northwest Pentecostal assembly here in Edmonton. We actually just moved there at the beginning of August to start internship. One of the things we were told early on in the interview process when discussing church culture was that a lot of the board members at our church were Black. However, the Lead Pastors are White. In addition, one of our lead pastors in a woman. We also have a congregation that has many older people, with a growing contingent of younger people and families. This was really exciting for us, especially as they told us how there was no difference, and the congregation worked in great harmony together.
We’ve been able to experience watching a church community that welcomes anyone of race, age, gender. What has been extraordinarily inspiring for us was to watch both lead pastors work in harmony together, leading together. There is no distinction in their roles. Likewise, the church board seems to function as a cohesive unit on fire for God! There is no animosity that exists between those who are white and those who are Black. Those lines seem to not exist there, and we are so grateful for how the focus is on God, and not skin colour. People are welcome to worship as they feel lead, and together this church really is on fire for God.
I don’t have a powerpoint today, but I hope that you are inspired by this testimony of our experience so far at NPA. It’s been amazing to watch how the people of God come together truly as one body. Every time we are there, we encounter God. It is amazing!
