Week 1: Money - Clear, not giving, but I think this is a subject that can be a Spiritual Strong hold for some people | I want to see people set free Full Disclosure
*I Was a paper Chaser #hustle baby.
Key Scripture:
1 Timothy 6:17 ESV
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Title: You can keep the change
Now I need everyone to be super vulnurible and real with me:
What I think, is that Most people want to be rich, but don’t think they are really rich, and think they can do a better job than the rich person at being rich
Did some Research found article on what people would do with $5m
54% would listen to country music forever
42% would remove all thier theeth
50% would let someone die
24% would live in solitude
Another article, Would you shock someone to earn money. 64% online said no. When money was shown 96% chose to shock. They either saw the face, or the hand of the person shocking them. They could earn money for every shock - The amount, 1 Pound
This tells me, there is a battle between what Money can give us in the physical and hence it takes our eyes off that which is eternal and our Purpose that God has for us.
My Hope is that by the end of the Sermon, We will see amazing gift that God has given us in Wealth and know it’s a tool to be used for His Glory.
To Do this and to break the shackles, we need to clarify a few things in our heart. We need a couple of biblical truths to seep down in our heart. Let’s do this together.
What is rich?
$60K = $120K, $120K = $240K, top earners = $5m. = Moving line. What does this tell us? That we always want…more.

1st Principle: The problem is never the money, it’s the priority

God does not have a problem with Money - He just wants priority.
Let’s go through a passage in Luke | Context = Jesus doing some Spiritual teaching, actaully accepting and putting Christ First, and this guy pipes in:
Luke 12:13-14 (ESV)
Luke 12:13–14 ESV
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”
Butted in, Jesus talking about things that are Spiritual, and he is concerned with Physical
Why does Jesus respond like this?
*Man* = Stranger. Jesus came to bring Man to God, not Posessions to Man
Jesus takes conversation deeper, because why? He knows the heart, he knows the Motives
Luke 12:15 ESV
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
Guard = Serious Warning
All Covetousness = All Greed.
Money is not the ROOT of all evil, but the LOVE of money.
Meaning of Greed: Have you placed something in the Phyiscal, above something in the Spiritual?
HIS = ESV added it in(NIV doesn’t) Rightly So, they were HIS posessions - Not Gods. Not Angry with the Possesssions,Jesus wants his Heart.
Now Jesus about to tell a parable
Luke 12:16–21 ESV
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” ’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
- He talks about himself 14 times. I’m gonna do this, I’m gona do that
How does God react “You FOOL!”
Here is the problem: Major Miscalculation = He is assuming he is going to make it to retirement
He was doing what many of us do, He stores up posessions for himself and gives God the leftovers
He was putting off God until he didn’t have to work. putting off his ministry until he could get around to it, 2 words though…they can make your break you…BUT GOD.
God wants to be in the middle of it, in fact he wants to be at the front of it
God wants to be your number 1 priority
No problem to have plans, productive, enjoy the fruits of your labour, God’s problem was that this man wanted to do it without him. God is the God of abundance
In fact, Paul puts it this way:
2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

I have a question

Are you rich?
Persepctive: 3 Billion People live on less than $2 per day.
You can tell how rich you are by what bothers you:
If you drive a car, top 15% of the wealthiest people in the world
If you use that car, to drive past restaurants, to go through drive through, for someone else to cook your food, then delivers it to you, then you complain because of how long it took | Forgot a napkin | **Story of going through McDonalds to get hotcakes** | that’s how rich you are
2nd Principle: You. Are. Rich = I know that there are some poeple that are facing financial stress - I absolutely have sympothy for that and your world - to be good at being rich, we have to acknowledge that God has blessed us financially.
Disadvantage of being rich - it makes us distracted from the things of God - but we have a greater call. whom much is given, much is required
Jesus puts it this way
Luke 12:48 ESV
But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.
Every Moment, of Every Day, you have culture shouting “What you don’t have, you need” and “Look after yourself”
What really Matters doesn’t live in the abundance of stuff
We know this to be true in our heads, but our lifestyles do not reflect this truth.
If you are spending more than you make, it’s because you have bought the lie that more stuff matters - If I Just get THAT, I will be happy. Cuture says More, and Culture Says self -
The truth, is it pushes God out when He wants to use you, for his Glory.
Brings us to our next principle

3rd Principle: Money is not the focus, it’s the fruit

Matthew 6:33 ESV
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Salary indicator on Seek - do you go there first?
God is saying, step into what I have for you even if it doesn’t make sense and I WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU.
When we believe we are the provider, we start to think we need to earn the money.
My Story of becoming a Pastor.

4th Principle: Everything is for HIS Glory

What a Truth - God Gives. Everything God gives is for What? His Glory.
Isaiah 43:6–7 ESV
I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
Everything God gives is a tool. My Gift to Preach is a tool, Your gift to make a great meal, is a tool, Treva’s ability to worship - Tool.
We are given abilities to earn money and posesssions for two reasons;
God REAAALLLY wants to bless you
Money and possessions is a tool, for his Glory
Why are there so many warnings in the Bible - Jesus spoke about it more than Faith and Prayer put together? These are the two gifts that God can give you that causes greed in your heart.
**Whipper Snipper / Weed eater - I love it…If you find a tool that is willing to do the job and does it well, what happens, you’ll keep using it…if you keep seeking the kingdom with what you have, God will keep suppling* *Oil Jars*
Funny preaching story (10%) and I preached 9 other sermons cause I liked it
How come it makes sense with anything else that we do, but with Money, we believe that 10% is God’s, and 90% is ours. Some…beleive 100% is theres.
We need to shift our focus
Pizza Story
What happens if you eat all 10 pizza’s?
You look like me, no i’m kidding, you get unhealthy right? You become…Spiritually…Bankrupt.
You might be rich, but you will be spiritually Poor and that’s why God said it’s easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter Heaven.
Does not apply to people with lots of possessions, but lots of HIS posessions and not GOD’s posessions

Application and Inspire

Don’t need more of what is Temprorary | More of what is Eternal | Money will not…Cure cancer, etc etc.
What we don’t need is more money, what we do need is more…JESUS | Not under power of this world, but of eternity.
Paul is trying to lead Timothy here; (think about the rich as US, in terms of US.
1 Timothy 6:17 ESV
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Faithful with a little, God will give you MORE. Some of you have been faithful with a little, and good stewards, maybe even maximised, don’t feel guilty but DO FEEL RESPONSIBLE. God has blessed you to have nice things, but it’s not all for you.
To people with MUCH that is given. Much is EXPECTED. What is expected?
1 Timothy 6:18–19 ESV
They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Do we want to live a life for God?
Let’s repeat this with me:
God has blessed me, with more than I need. I’m Rich. But I will not trust in my riches, but in him who Richly Provides. Because I have more, I will give more, and I will do more for His Glory.
With everything in me, I want to LIVE this. God has blessed me, with more than I need, I will not trust in STUFF, but in the one that richly provides.
I am called, equipped, empowered and honoured to do more.
Temporary things of this world Promises, but never delivers.
Church - Let’s do something that matters, let’s do something that lasts, let’s make a difference only the way rich people can make a difference.
- Maybe you’ll give time
- Maybe you’ll cook a meal for someone in this Church
- Maybe you’ll pick up the phone and check in on someone
Maybe you will go on a holiday and spend the entire time serving
Maybe you will go look at your possessions and break down and thank him for everything he has given you
When we lose our life, that’s when we really find it.
I will not trust in my riches, but in that who richly provides.
Because I have more, I will do more, I will give more and in that, I will find a life, that is truly…life.
Let’s live Church
