Biblical Doctrine Chp 2
INTRO: Good Morning, good morning! It’s good to see you all again. Have you guys ever thought about what a blessing it is to gather together as brothers and sisters and listen to the word God being preached?
Or for that matter, just being able to have access to this book, a privlege which many people, in many parts of the word dont have.
And as children of God, we also believe it has the power to change our hearts and instruct us on how to live in a manner that is pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
Not only that, but as born again believers we also hold dear the belief that the words spoken in this book, are indeed the very words of God, which is filled with great and precious promises to to encourage us and fill us with hope that can carry us through any trial we may face.
But there are many people out there who doubt the Bible to be the actual word of God. In fact the Bibel seems to be constantly under attack with challeges and excuse from people trying to discredit it’s inherency
Trans: So how do we know the Bible is actually the Word of God? How doe we know these people arent correct? Well today we will be comparing 3 different views on inspiration, with what the bible has to say about itself, and you can be the judge.
Natural inspiration: In other words, some people hold the view that the Bible has no supernatural dimension to it, and that those who wrote the bible werre just men of great genius, and that their writings were no more inspired than those of other geniuses through out history.
(another on thats pretty common is) Partial Inspiration: where people believe that only certain parts of the Bible are inspired by God. such a the accounts of creation, different prophisies , and anything that could not of been known otherwise.
Concept Inspiration: Which is a very popular view where people believe that only the Concepts are inspired and not the actual words themselves.
Trans: So what does the bible saya baout itself? Thats a good question, im glad you guys asked.
Well in 2 Tim 3:16 it says “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,” So we can see that not only are the concepts inspired, or certain parts of scripture, but the very words themselves, and every word that this book contains.
You may ask “Well couldn’t man corrupt the truth in the process of recording it? “ i don’t believe so, for the bible also testifies that those who wrote it werre “carried along by the Holy Spirit which we can see in 2 peter 1:21. So the Holy Spirit became the co-author with each human author of the bible. And we can see examples of this through out both the OT and the NT (ps110, ac 1:16/4:24-25, Heb 3:7)
The Bible also seems to claim inerrancy for itself when the Lord claims in Matt 5:18 that every bit of scripture will endure and all will be fulfilled. It reads: The Jot was the smallest letter in the hebrew alphabet, and the title the minor stroke wich certain heberew letters form one another. In other words, the lord is saying that every letter and every word is important and all in the OT would be fulfilled exactly as spelled letter by letter and word by word.
Conclusion: So, i think it is safe to say that we can trust the Bible to be true. We can also trustt that the human authors were superintended by the Holy Spirit to write his word using their own personalities, and without error. For if God who good and true, who we have come to know for ourselves through experience with his grace, then we we can have confidence that his word is also good and true, down to the last jot and title.
