Foundation Course - Class 4 New Format
So, yep, we're recording good deal. Alright, well, good morning. Everybody. Glad to have you here. Welcome to the the final class you made it. You got to the end good for you. Today is kind of a fun class, we get to talk about, really how you I can get plugged in about Messiah and everything we can do. I'd be able to get involved some online tools. And then hopefully we'll have some time toward the end of class for our final Q&A to ask anything. It's kind of like open mic night, you know anything you want to ask on any Topic at the end of class today, cuz I'll be able to move these sites fairly quickly cuz there's kind of a repetitive pattern and you have all the information you need in your hand out. That's more detailed in the slides, as far as Ministry opportunities and they're always available and a to you to be able to reach out the email excetera to do that. So, he starts with prayer this morning and then we'll get going. I'll be in my cane and our father and our King. We are rejoicing is that this season is upon us. Lord, that you have. You kept us, you've enabled us to reach this season. Lord. God. We. Thank you for that. And then and Lord, as we celebrate Rosh Hashanah on Monday night, Lord, God. We just look forward to that time and Father God, we just thank you for this class, for these group of individual people and those who have come to learn a little bit more about that Messiah and what's going on here. Father, just ask you to bless him back for the time. Thank you. For those who are a part of this this team already. You've already said, I'm not coming into this and those who are still praying and thinking about it or we just asked you would get some clarity or thank you for this time. This morning. I would just ask that you would give us the ability to learn from your word and be able to to just have Clarity of thought in mind you she was named. Amen. All right. How to get involved. I'm going to jump right in and you can follow along to in your guides which will be fairly close to what the slides are. We're in module for in if you didn't get the module, they're in the back, but it starts on page 30. And it's a ship along pretty well. So the first thing is Hapa, rock groups Harbor, Omni Fellowship. So our fellowship or Harbour rock groups plural, Harbour Road, you can kind of cheating a little bit. You were really sick, but we cheat in Texas, have a Rock. So Hott. Groups are small groups that meet together usually in a host home. They are basic Fellowship time. They can also be online. Have a couple of the other online. They consist of a facilitator or facilitators may be a host home, who's not the facilitator that can be. And then folks, and actually attend, and we have ten of these right now. I hope the hoping you'll be able to wrap up a few more. If things get going on September 18th will be doing a big deal to kind of push her Harbour wrote and that if you see the next flight, it may be difficult to read it, but you'll see the different locations around the city where we have hover Road there. There's going to be an open sign up for this on the 18th of September. Like I said that will promote much like our ministry leaders weekend. Service on the 18th would be able to go out and meet the hopper opposite of taters, find out, you know, where they live. What time they meet and look up more information than what we do. When you sign up on the website. We don't put the address on there for for security reasons. We just kind of give you an area where they live and then you contact them and you know, they find out you're not an Ax Murderer and then say, okay will let you come and so then what you go through the Gateway process and I'll talk about that. It's basically you either have been apart of the synagogue life somewhere else or you. If you're new to this process, you've been through the foundation class and guess what? Hey, you qualify. So you can, you can start jumping into a lava rock group of your choice. Like I said, we don't assign people to these. We let them choose aisle where they want to go based on geography for the most part or maybe it's on subject matter, you know, if you're really interested in a certain topic that somebody's going through Can do that. So I'm going to roll through these pretty quickly. Mine is the only one I know of at this point that year round. Most of them are September October through about April, May about that time frame and sell the lot of them to be ramping back up again, but mine is is first Fruits of Zion Store Club, and it's a year-round commitment and I want to loose word. Let me say it's a year-round teaching cycle and you can commit to that. And yes, there's a cost Associated to it. It's $60 for the year. But let me just tell you, they kill some trees. They sent a lot of material out. And so you'll get all the the books for the entire year, even though we'll do 26 of the 52 cycles of a lesson Cycles. You'll get all 52 books on 52 pamphlet. So if you're interested in doing that you can you can email me and I can let you know about that Sean Akasha, I said, Riverpark. I've been told that that's actually new territory, but it's close to River Park. It's right up 99 Greatwood area. So pretty close to us. Linda Cummings is Pearland and she took over right by Phillips group when he left for Israel Wing in a million Morris, there is online and for most of us who was up north in Kingwood last week. He was from the. Okay. So they're in Porter, so but they're online. So that makes it a whole lot easier than having to drive all the way up to Porter know, Aunt, Sandy Espinoza. They are basically taking over what? Jesse and Misty post have done up in Tomball. There's is on the northwest side of 6-10 over close to. The heights is where they're located except it's technically, called Shepherd, Forest area, but then candeloris McBee or I'm on the East Side in Pasadena. That's where they are. John and Melanie Melanie in the back there, in the Sugar Land. Greatwood area, not very far from us. Dan. Rebecca, trees, ice, or in the Old Sugar Land Sugar Mill area over where the old Sugar Mill used used to be still standing. But he used to be, then we have a woman's, however, our group that meets in this building, like specifically, in this building, the youth building and that's on Tuesday nights and some of these, I haven't put information in there yet. It's going to get back field. And when I have the backfield information, cuz I'm still waiting to hear when they're going to make some of them are still determining. When they're going to meet. I will put that day to Inn at forum and I will send it all to you. Cuz right now you'll see a lot of blanks in there about work where they meet. And then finally, Pete and Kelley Warman. Anybody on the west side of town like, Katie in that direction, anybody over there. Okay, if you folks sucks up eating Kelly woman over there. They're like in the old Katy like way out there, almost heading towards Brookshire. All right, so that's a Habra that we have 10 of them right now, two of them online, eight of them in person that made most of them meet Melanie. You get you guys meet twice a month, okay?
Okay. Okay, so I put that in the wrong. You don't meet on here. Are you you mean on Saturday Night's? Alright, I'll get that fixed. Alright Ministry opportunities. Alright jumping right in. So we have a lot of things in here. A lot of this can be found on our website to but it's all here for you, course our children's directories in the back of the room. So I got to be careful. Watch my p's and q's hear about how I say things actually. I just copied it straight from her website, so I should be okay, but our children's ministry is a great opportunity to get involved in the mission of teaching our kids about Torah about a refill, Sean about the fact that God loves them. And that's the bottom line is, you want the kids to understand. They are loved by God, and so it's important and I'll say this for several times again before the end of the day, and I have a slide in here, but if you're going to be involved in any Ministry that involves our children are our youth, you need a background check. Very simple process. When you do that. We just get your Social from you. We don't see any of that information. The only person that I say, we me, I don't see you. The only person that usually sees it's going to be Donald possibly our office manager and that's it. We just see a green check mark in in our system that says, you've been approved. And so that's, that's important things. We background. Check all of our volunteers. I have a background. Check every year on my wife has a background check every year. So we always do whatever January is very important to protect our kids. So now his contact information call the office so you can email her, the email addresses in, there are youth ministry of these guys meet in Shabbat. If you don't know this, they meet every Shabbat in here and they took the month of August off and today off, but they are going to be back in in session pretty soon after the fall Feast. So they will come in here and that's why we usually have to clear out of here by 9:30, cuz their youth team comes in to worship practice and then when the service starts, they'll be in the service for a little while and then they'll go out when the bar mitzvah the name is for people go out. When the children go out, they will actually I don't have a service of their own in here, kind of morphing house, a mess going to work. I love the young people in there in our congregation. But we're trying to get the that all worked out where everybody's happy. You can get involved in youth ministry by contacting Xavier and Nancy benavidez. Great, great family. He by the way, he works, the Houston fire department. She's an educator until there's a lot of stuff there that they are there. Just always busy great, people, b'nai Mitzvah class. This is for our children, 11 and 12 more interest in having a bar. Mitzvah. If you ride by Todd always needs volunteers to at least. Just all you have to basically do is just hang out cuz he went to make sure that he's protected to, we don't want to have him here by himself. So, I, we usually have some, folks. It'll be up here to help him out. But he also, he has some deep in your real detail people, too. That's the skillset. There is you can read Hebrew in those kind of things. And so that's that's kind of a real specific skill-set are mitzvah. Almost Ministry interesting enough. This is meeting tomorrow or Mitzvah homeless Ministry. Meets the first Sunday of every month. They go out to downtown Houston area. Just east of downtown in an open field. Next to the big church and Thousand Hills Ministries. The sponsoring group, we go out. There. We we bring food and we prepare that food. Most of the time. This time around, we aren't doing that because of a funeral that happened in the layout family and also Ralph's not feeling well. So we got that covered this week through other means but we're feeding people what we'll do is feed them or bring some toiletries and clothing items out there setting that up. We have a service, we have worship. We have a message. We have zipper on Jamacha, and it's year-round, rain or shine. It's, it's happening that you have. So few Pavilions out there, but it's around. And tomorrow is the hottest. One of the year. I just will tell you it's 3 in the afternoon and it is Toasty out. There. But they come and they say it's really a blessing to the community to be able to go out there and serve those in need. You can get involved by talking to Ralph or Doris and I email them worship Ministry, the worship Ministries, one of those kind of skill-set things that you got to, you know, have a tryout for. But the worship Ministry is part of what we do to get a musical background. I will say to, and it comes in later. If you are interested in choir choir, another one where you can get involved in, you don't need to try out for that. You can be involved with choir as well. And I mean, I'll give you the contact information for that, but you can contact worship at CVM Houston's at work. If you happen to have been had some experience in the background on worship. Our dance ministry. My wife left on my wife, used to do the dance ministry many, many years ago and really kind of little use to go to The JCC when they would have Israeli folk dance and they would at least learn. All that different Israeli steps. We would have different seminars at the umjc in the NCAA conference is over dance. And so she was just pick up some of that. It's over the years. We just kind of she did that for a long time. Now, it's Marissa Pierce, who's leading at the dance ministry? Kind of has different tiers. Anybody. Of course, Can Dance on Shabbat morning. You don't have to have a left and a right foot. You can have two left feet like me and you can dance, we will let you shuffle along with anybody. So that's fine. If you want to go that next level up and actually do beginner dance and do this, what we call the core team, where they meet on Thursday nights and they go over all the dances. You need to have a little bit more of a skill set and get with Marissa. And then if you want to go real high level in that is due that the special dances for like, you'll see Rosh Hashanah this year. You'll see it pass over next year at the hotel. That's kind of are I hate you use the word elite but they're, they're kind of the core super dancers. If you will, they they, they're the ones that work a lot. And so if you've been around, if you've been around and seen some of the dancers, you know, they work pretty hard. That was just tell you that when it comes around time to pass over, when they start preparing for Passover dances. They will work starting in January and they will work every weekend Sunday. Sometimes, they want to get it. Perfect. And so, and once again, for them, it's not performance. It's worship, but they want to do the best I can. So if you're wanting to get involved in that, you can contact Marissa. This next one is also a specialized skill that I certainly do not have but I wish it did. And that is Spanish translation. Many moons ago. We used to have Russian translation as well. I think Tatiana is the only person left that still speaks Russian here. I have a few others that come, but she knows enough English. Now she been around us long enough. But we used to have Russia, but would you have Spanish translation every weekend? So I will just tell you. I if it's me or if it's Augustin or Rabbi Richard or somebody else. We we send our notes to them. They actually they want to see our notes that go through them. They study them, they make sure they got the translation down. They take it very seriously. And if I have it set of my notes by Friday at 2, they will let me know. They will send me an email saying, brother need to notes. So very important. You can talk to George Tucker roof, very interesting guy his. By the way, his name is not Jorge. It is George because he is actually not of South American descent. He's actually from the Russian Ukrainian area and then moved to South America where you met Elena is why. So just to let you know, he speaks fluent Russian and fluish managed, to really, we should just see if you can do it at the same time. That would be fun. Right? Just see if he can do them both at the same time. Maybe I should challenge him with that. All right, or Usher's Melanie's husband. John is over are Usher's. They played a very important role and this is a role that and I say it's very important, folks. Look, I hate to say this, but we just live in an evil world. There's something there that you know, that the god of the God of this world. The prince of the power of the air has some things he's trying to do. One of them is to destroy Israel. Destroy the Jewish people and Destroy anything that has to do with with God and you show up. So in the process of that, we have Usher's and a lot of them are all so security. So we do have a security team that separate. But those are sores are also our first line of defense. So to let you know, if something goes down, those guys are and gals, let's just be honest, some of those gals. They're pretty tough customers. And so, they checked us. So, if you see him just say, hey, thanks for all you do cuz they don't just sit you down in a chair. They also are watching and making sure that everything's okay, at every exit and every entrance during the service and active, even after the service, W understand that you can contact John, they also do some other special things like a dick run hamashiach. They will help distribute the elements to the congregation at Passover. They have a very important role. I buy helping at the all the doorways, cuz we know we have a Passover seder. Sometimes we have a thousand people. And so, we need to, I call it to Chuck-E-Cheese. Like, they need to monitor the Chuck-E-Cheese light, so that you get a stamp on your hand. When you go to the door, that way, if you have to go to the restroom, and then you can come in and out in those guys have a little thing where they check out. Make sure you got stamps like you do. When you go to Chuck, E cheese. If you're not a parent, you have never been to Chuck-E-Cheese. You know, what, the Chuck-E-Cheese stamp is? You get it for that place. I'm glad I'm not have to go there anymore. My grandchildren are coming. I'll probably have to go there again. So breeders greeters Ministry work, alongside the ushers at the friendly faces that you see out there, Sharon Prater is over, are greeters. If you haven't met Shannon, she will meet Shannon because she meets. She doesn't need a stranger. She knows everybody. And so she's an amazing lady. And I and so Shannon is over. That will bears. In fact, there's a, there's a greeter right there. He's coming in yesterday or he is Rabbi Richard coming in.
The guy was a great commercially. I cannot believe your time and you must hear from the Lord, so that was pretty good and plus he's sick, So if you don't know that that's my father-in-law founder the congregation rather Richard Freeman, and he's now graduated. He says, he's graduated to being a greeter, so he's now a greeter, and he's very excited about it. Are greeters Ministry out there. They also work alongside or will be working alongside or new information team, which you'll find out about today, which actually launching today or information team is launching today, but if you can talk to Shannon about being a part of the greeters, very important role for us our hospitality and coffee. If you're not in here and you come in on Shabbat morning, you'll see Bob and Linda working hard for the the coffee Ministry to make sure you have a some type of caffeine to get you going. And so if you're interested in helping in that Ministry, you can talk to Bob. Reminder about helping with that our own egg and kitchen. I kind of put that together. It is really separate. But, but Caroline Fitzwater and Ron are kind of over the oneg and kitchen area. It is a smooth operation that they do. A great job. They take care of all of her own eggs. Actually all of our food events, really anything that happens in the kitchen, where we need some type of item for anything, whether it's even in the case of sometimes a special lunches or other things that we do there in like to get involved that you can contact Ron and Caroline Fitzwater about helping with onegin kitchen. The Marine team the morning Melanie's role is not just children's ministry, but she also is over now our event planning and modeen and so our modem teams also kind of a special Corps, a group of people that helped out during the year. It's it's kind of one of those areas where you do a lot of things. You can help with decor with Sisterhood. You can help with oneg. You can help us set up of tables. You can help with all sorts of different aspects of what we have during our different High holidays, and other things around the year, especially around Passover as well. There's all sorts of rules for the molding team to be involved in seder plates at cetera. Lots of stuff going on to core even though the course kind of a, we pull out and Sisterhood. It's also kind of kind of mess is over and everything. Melanie done, it just kind of go to different places.
Yeah.
Right, so, just like children's ministry. You can also contact Melanie for promoting coordination help. This is a new ministry. It's launching today, and we should call this guest or Visitor Center. What we've learned and what I've learned is that if you say, hey, visitors, go, see our Center big, they're terrified to petrify. They don't want to go into the visitor center, a lot of places that don't because they wanted me and onimus, and that's okay. So, if we say information center, it opens it up to anybody and the information centers more than just visitors. It's if you want to know more details about all the stuff we're talking about, right now, every single thing, we're talking about, they have a sheet for that at the information center and they can tell you about other Ministries. If you've lost your contact information and you want information about that Ministry, they can give it to you. If you want to know about the next upcoming Sisterhood are they can help you sign up for that. So all those kind of things will happen at her information center. You'll see some big banners out there in the street this morning where the information center launch to taking place and you can go meet and greet them Rick and Sandy Scott her over that. And so if you want to be a part of that Ministry, you can talk to Rick or Sandy or email them and they can help you out there. All right, another area. That's kind of a specific skill-set but can be trainable is our production team. Our production team is really amazing group and the Gregg Raley is kind of over that with Donald and Audrey on some other folks back there. You'll see people on cameras. The one camera we have in the back. That's kind of the biggest skillset. You got to have, if you don't know how to operate a camera, doesn't mean you can't be on the team. We need folks to learn all the technology this back there, video switching. If you like the old Atari games with the joystick, you can have fun back there cuz you get the move a little cameras around and so, all that stuff involved. If you if you ever been back there. I'm a big Star Trek fan. So it's kind of like I like going back there for like, I'm Captain Kirk cuz it's like the Starship Enterprise. They're sick humongous television monitors. Up there so I can go check out the romulans and the Klingons and everybody at the same time. So if you don't know anything about Star Trek that went over your head but there's all sorts of screens back there. They're checking out the words. If you don't know this when we do online service, I think I'll watch the service online before, okay, you see online service. You should, you'll notice that sometimes we had the Liturgy slides in the corner, but the words are just going across the bottom and will be called Lower thirds. That's a completely new technology. We've had to do an Implement. And so all that stuff takes, you know, some work. So it takes a team to do that production, to be able to send that message out every, we got service out every week over YouTube and over Facebook and over our web stream. So a lot of stuff there, you can contact Gregg Raley, where Donald Sexton. If you're interested in being a part of that team, it's not an every-week commitment. It is a once or twice a month commitment. You don't have to be there every week in this service sheets. Just you sign up for a team and you can run. 8 in and out. Just like you did with your boss going anything else. A lot of our Ministries are like that were going to teach the Bots go you're not expected to do it every week here. You're going to be on a rotation media. Sound is the same way that we do have some specialized guys that we bring in. We contract in to help with the real difficult, part of sound. But if you're interested in doing things like Claudia does with the lights back there or with what Julia does to help us with the words on the screen, you know, we need some help there. And so you can train with them and learn a little bit more about how we do that. You can talk to Julia for media, Donald for sound and their emails. One of my favorite teams that's gotten lost. Again is our volunteer receptionist team. I love this cuz we have some great ladies that come in and just work with us. We don't have a full-time receptionist you about Messiah. So we have volunteers and when one of our volunteer, receptionist come in, Julia is very happy. She's very happy because that person won't answer the phone. And a lot of times that person will also triage things for the rabbis the rabbinic staff, and for others and even pray for people. It's a great thing. It's a great ministry, a sometimes. We have some special project for them to do between Melanie and myself. Will get you busy. If we got something for you to do, and you can contact Janice friary if you're interested in that. Our Resource Center is buzzing and busy and that is Linda Cummings. The resource center. Is that the small little room with a sliding glass door that's across the street. From the, you'll see the visitor center and right across from that. You'll see the door for the resource center. You can go online to our website and click the shop Tab and see everything that's in our Resource Center. You can order something during the week and she will have it ready on the weekends for you, especially for those who don't want to exchange any money on Shabbat, that will have that ready for you in advance, and then you don't even have to worry about it. You just grab your bag on the way out the door. So, if you like to be a part of the resource center Ministry, you can contact, Linda, it's a great, great ministry and she does a fantastic job with that. Is it going,? She has, this is Paul and Karen human. He also wears a lot of hats around here. But one of the things that they do is they set up for our secret hamashiach service, once a quarter, we do this and they would always love some help if you're interested in helping with that to Ministry. You can do that in contact volunteering. Other Ministries and things that that we could tell you about that, were in the last class that I didn't give you information on, just told you about the ministry's, but you might want to contact them. One is Sisterhood. So Kim beard is over our Sisterhood and they have a subcommittee of people that kind of work with her. If you're interested in, helping in that area, and one of those is decor, for example, the other one is event planning and some other stuff. If you're interested in doing that, you can contact him. On check Hile are our Men of Valor is our Men's Ministry and Ray Fisher is over that. We do a quarterly Sunday brunch breakfast at with prayer where we will also do Bible study and will also do some special projects. And in fact this weekend because the leal's are out on check aisle is kind of helping with the Mitzvah Ministry this weekend. So they're kind of running that for it for a Ralph endorse. I mentioned earlier a Messianic choir. If you're not part of choir, already love for you to be a part of the choir this time. It is the busy time for them. Usually between September and Passover, is when they are the busiest because they'll be doing High holidays. They'll be doing Hanukkah. They'll be doing Passover for Rosh, Hashanah on erev. Rosh Hashanah. Our choir will actually be leading Us in worship along with the worship team. So it's going to be really exciting this year. I'll be involved. So you can contact the doll Isaac or Michelle vetri for anything about the choir. There's also some gaps that we still need to fill. Samministries that we have not been able to find leadership for and if you do you get done and you to go to the membership and you just have a burning desire to help in some of these, let us know and college and careers. One of them young, marrieds is another. And every says, can you define young marrieds? While I am not going to. I'm not going to touch that with a ten-foot pole, but but you probably know if you're young married or not. I will tell you. Usually, what we do is we say, if the, if one of the spouses is 39 or younger, we consider that young married, so we need that area. And also singles. So if you're interested in helping with any of those Ministries or even, you know, once you get done and you're, you've been with us for a little while, you won't even want to consider leaving it. Let us know. As I mentioned before, a background check is required for all our ministry, volunteers who work with children or Youth and a high-level. If you don't understand what that's all about. We're not checking your financial information. We're not doing anything that we're just basically making sure there's no felony history in your background. Okay. I just in case you don't know in Texas, the law is if there's any felony in your background, you can be a redeemed person. You absolutely can be a reading person spiritually, but that felony Mark will keep you from working with our children. Are you? It's just so you know, and that's just a dude make that statement by any questions about any of the ministry's or Harbour wrote. I mean pause for a moment before I move on to the next section.
Normally what we done in the past as we've had those people come in and kind of share a little bit after Ministry, but in and I love all those people, but the problem is is that they all don't always get here on time, and so we don't get all the coverage. So we thought it'd be easier for us to just go ahead and give you the splash of everything and you can meet them as you go online, tools and helps. All right, so we do a lot of things through here through a website where we're trying to ramp up our technology and try to do some things that help you get plugged in. So, one of those things is called Planning Center. And so you might hear that term if you're in their Planning Center or better known as PCO Planning Center Online, this is a tool that used basically, for any team type group. The worship team uses acquire uses. It dance are are Usher's, are starting to use it. Now are be meeting all the men that are up there to help with that or every week or on there. And then we're going to be ramping up again. Starting in a couple of weeks are, are upfront, prayer team. Once we get past a lot of this covid stuff that's been going on. We're going to have our of upfront prayer teams again, and those hooks are all part of this team thing that's in Planning Center. And so they'll be able to go in and see you can see here. We have the audio visual team the band choir, choir leadership and information Ministry is also plugged in there. Now, I forgot about that cuz they're starting today Rosh, Hashanah dance team and there's probably a few others over to the side that I didn't put in the screen shot. But all these teams are What entry Planning Center and it's very helpful because you get an email, you get it tells you when you're going to have the next practice. It tells you when your assigned something. If you don't know what Planning Center is and you get plugged in when he's in ministries. I promise you Augustine or myself, or Donald or somebody will walk you through how that works. It's even if you're a little bit challenge with laptops or your phone and all that kind of stuff. We can show you how to make it very easy for you to do, simple as getting an email. And if you're assigned for it, let's see your assigned to the information Ministry for the weekend and, you know, your got your big trip to Vegas planned and you're going to go or you're going to go to Hawaii for your 30th wedding anniversary. We realized the commitment there is to your spouse and not to the information center that weekend. So what you're going to do is going to go in you're going to say reject and we don't feel bad when you reject this. We just know that you're busy and so when that rejection comes up, I don't know. I don't see any in this example here, but you'll see a little Edmark, that shows up, I'll relieve Alexa's are no ba1 there or a to there and that tells us that there were some folks that rejected and we need to fill those spots. And so that's what that's for on our end. So we know what's a Rita's going to commit to a prayer team. And we just got a big trip to Hawaii with her family and she can't be there that weekend. So she's going to say no. And then we're going to go in and we're going to say, Jane. Can you fill in to read a spot for that weekend? For example, so those kind of things. All right. I bet signups. This is also a big part of what we do. You will receive emails from our from our office and you'll have a little but more you can sign up for the events. You do that on our event sign-ups page on our website. You can also do it at the the two kiosks that are out there who have a couple iPads that are out there in the information center will also be able to walk you through that too as well on how you can sign up for event. What are what are we signing up? For things like men's prayer breakfast or Sisterhood, maybe your retreat, something like that, Foundation class, different things that people have signed up for, so that's important and you can use use that website there to do that rcbm online Resource Center. If you go to CBM, houston.org shop, I think it is or something like that. Shopify is the thing that we use, you'll be able to go in and see all the resources. As I said before the books. If you ordered the books for this class, you might have gone through that process to get them and Linda would have had that package ready for you, so you can go in and you can order, not just books. But today, Erica. Are you going to get a prayer book and get a calendar? You can get anointing oil. You can get out. Havdalah set all sorts of different things. Have ladies scarves. Are they have he potent there? All sorts of things? All right. Online giving. I wish I wish my father-in-law was in here now because the man doesn't own a debit card. I'm not joking. You, he does not own a debit card. So he everything's a check or cash. He does have a credit card, but he does not know where that at. He doesn't trust the bank. So it's very funny. But so he his on his online giving his non-existent. But if you're one of those like me, I haven't written the check, and I don't know when the last time I wrote a check. I just don't remember the last time. I had to write a check. I actually did write one a couple weeks ago and I had to go find my checkbook. It was like an archaeological dig in my house. I could not find my checkbook. So the process of kind of ramping up our giving are giving elements, we do the online giving. And so one of the things you could do is you can either go and set up your your online, getting his recurring in our system. You can also actually do a text to give you can scan a QR code. In fact, if you stand that with your phone right now, it actually would bring you that page, but you can also tell A dollar amount. And so this is kind of funny, we put in there, text the dollar amount because they used to say, text with three little dollar signs and we have a lot of people start sending three little dollar signs. Okay? Well, we meant to tell you, is send the amount and so it would send back a message saying does not compute. We don't know what you want to give. So to try to explain that a little bit better on the next page will see what we kind of mean. If you just text and then you put a dollar amount in there. It knows its ties and offerings, but if you put a word after it, benevolence a q4q Mitzvah Gaston building it, it puts it in those designated accounts. What does that mean? Okay, so benevolent means you want to give something for somebody in. Need. We have people who sometimes need help with rent and have a broken down car. They have a difficult situation. And so we always want to try to bless the community or remembers if they're in a very dire situation financially, so that's what the benevolence. Q4q. And that we have a table at this morning. That's for the course for quarters Ministry, that Eve Woodards over and I didn't mention much about that, cuz she really doesn't need a whole lot of help on that. But quarters, four, quarters of the ministry. We help those. Marginalized, those women who are caught in human trafficking and slavery and things like that and Israel. And so what we do is we can designate funds for quarters, four quarters to help with that Ministry effort. Mitzvah, so the Mitzvah Ministry is specifically to help those. We we we order food, we get a materials, we get clothing, all sorts of things for the Mitzvah Ministry that homeless in its finished reading once a month, that means guest speakers. So we have a guest speaker come in so you can text the word gas, then you can donate to that person who's coming in. And finally, building is for the building fund. We really don't really, we don't really promote that a whole lot anymore because we have a nice building, but in this during the day, we still have people to give to it all the time and it's just beautiful. And so in case you don't know, financially, what we have to do is we have to designate that and set it aside. So when you go to our business meeting every February, have a business meeting, once a year in February, where we open up our books and let everybody see what we have. And how we spend at what we do, with our with, with your finances, not with flowers, because yours, we're just Stewart's of what God brings in, wee, sit down and we show all those details. And We will have a separate fund there for the building fund and so if ever got her blesses us and we build like a, you know, Community Center or another building or something like you sent it or something. Then we won't use the sponge to be able to do that. All right, so that's that. If you've given, before you receive a text confirmation that the viewer change, your payment methods, you can log in to see me in Houston. Church center.com., We didn't pick the term shirt center. It's just one of those generic things that you use for this kind of stuff and you can add CBM getting to your contacts, Tazewell online Bible reading. So we're starting a new Bible reading, cycle this year, at simchat Torah, which will come up in late September. And so the Tanakh and the Brits out of shower. Reading cycle is going to be available there online. Once the cycle is over with, you'll start seeing those new date to pop up in late, September early October. So it kind of looks like this on the screen the reading for the day and where we're going to be And then you can click on that link and it will take you to the Bible. Gateway passage for that particular one, and I think Angie Westmoreland takes care of this and she also put some things in there where you can actually link and going to if you want to hear the word instead of just read it, but you want to hear it. You can do that, too. We also have an app for the iPhone and Android in case you didn't know that we actually have a bet Messiah phone app. So I don't have a picture of it here. But if you've ever seen, or downloaded it almost open my up my Astros out, cuz it looks a lot like I start David. But no, so it looks like that. So when you open up the CBM app, you got all sorts of different things here. Are, you can watch the service, you can go to our Resource Center. You can also go to our calendar and see all the calendar events. So all that, and like I said, Sarah Brooks to Shawna Services, the first thing that pops up on the calendar event, you can go to our social media Pages. I'm all sorts of things that you can do with in the app. It's pretty neat little tool. And also, you can also do the Bible readings from there as well. This QR code here in the background is where you can actually put that on your phone. If you scan that on your phone, you can download the app after that. And basically you can go to the Amazon app store. You can go to Microsoft, you get all sorts of different places, the Apple Store as well to get that. All right, if you don't know what I'm talking about, then that's okay. That means that you have surpassed that information and you don't need an app on your phone. So but if you want, want that, that's great. All right? Any questions over any of our online tools before? I kind of wrap up today with the, with the membership process, and how that works. Okay, we're doing good on time. So let me move into the membership process cuz congratulations you're done with class. So we finished.
Just to let you know, the requirement first of all for this class is that you attend? Three out of four classes in person. We've had the covid thing. So, when we have a few folks, who have not been able to attend all those, and I am making special, dispensation for those folks, they were able to go to two classes, but they wanted to be a part of it. But my goodness, when you've got covid, we want to be safe. So we send them the on. That's why we send you the online class every week, the digital format. And so, they just get back with me and they basically say, you know, when it's the honor System, they sent me an email saying I did watch the class. There's no test at the end. There's no passing score of 70 or anything like that. You just need to watch the class and then let me know you watched it. So membership. If you are having your folder, you should have in the front of your folder. Something that looks like Destin. It's the application and it's just been changed a little bit, and I'll go over this with you in a moment. Kind of walk you through the application process. You fill out the membership application. And if you can, I'll also send these out electronically this week to you. If you're one of those looks like me. That's real geeked out about filling this out, you know, digitally great. I'll send you the form. So you can do that. If you don't know what I just said, what that means, then you're going to want to use a pen. So, all right. So you're right, your testimony on a separate sheet of paper. This can also be handwritten as long as you're not a doctor and you write like a prescription so I can read it. Otherwise type it, and it doesn't have to be longer than a page. It really doesn't have to be longer than a half a page. We just want to know, you know, I'm from Boston. I was dropped by aliens. I believe in the, you know, we want to make sure that's not you. Okay. So we're trying to find out where you're coming from and what your relationship is with God. You're going to participate in an interview with the TBM staff member. This is new. Okay. Now this is not scary. I'm not going to put a bright light in your face and say where are you on the night of whatever this is going to be. Hey, glad you came to class. Can we answer any questions? You have all your questions questions? Been answered. Is there anything we can clarify? Do you understand how you can get involved about Messiah? Yes, no, maybe. And then we can were faced with that process. Okay, this is replacing and you'll be. Glad you guys are the first-class. This is replacing the old requirement. We had that you had to get 10 hours volunteer hours of service in different Ministries to be able to get through membership. And yes, we see all that is important, but it was really kind of a during covid in was just a mess. We just couldn't do it. And so, we did away with that. And so, we're doing the exit interview instead. I will send some information via email about how that works. And like I said, it's a matter of a phone call. A zoom call in. Person, I will make some office hours available for anybody who wants to come by in person as well. And that's how you do that. All right, so the membership process, you turn in your complete the application. Testimony send a picture of you and your family members who are applying. If you haven't done so already, if you're going to do that. That's why we needed the picture. I asked for a couple you all day. But if you didn't do it, you can send that a picture with your application or send it via email. Why do I need that? Because when we get you guys to the congregation, we do this little scrolling deal. And if you're like me, I used to be an educator in high school. And now I'm when they came out with this new technology where I got to actually see all my kids faces and where they sit, I learn their names just like that. And so when people can see your name in your face up on the screen, it really helps them than just lock in who you are. Okay, so that's that's the only reason we're not going to share that information with anybody else there and your pictures. Not going to show up in a Facebook ad or anything like that. All right, so that people ask the question, why membership his membership biblical, all these kind of things. And I understand that that's all good questions to ask. And can you really say that membership at congregation is biblical. I mean you can see some ground for the importance of it. But this is more of a philosophical discussion. And so the reason why membership is important are for things like this, you have a wedding. Yes. What if you remember we're going to let you use the facility and it's not going to cost you anything other than what you're going to pay your, your people for your photographer, your flower balloon, only flowers, a whole lot. But the people who set up the wedding coordinate, the wedding, those are the people you pay facility charge is like a hundred dollars, you know, it supposed to when my daughter got married and I had to take out a mortgage, it's unbelievable, but it felt like it bar and Bat Mitzvahs. So anybody who's going to go through a bar Bat, Mitzvah and Heather kids of the b'nai Mitzvah class. They need to be members. Okay, more. Services for us to do a memorial service. Here about the site. We only do Memorial Services here on site with no caskets. We don't do caskets ever. But Memorial Services we do for members only. Okay. Now I did a funeral on Monday for somebody who's not a member who's been coming, and I will do that at a funeral home. Absolutely. But as far as Memorial Services, we only do those four members Ministry teams involvement. So in order for you to get plugged into Ministry teams, you need to have gone through and become a member to be, you know, we have some some special situations like for some of y'all who may be involved in prayer or in the worship team. We say is long as you're in the new members class and, you know, you're going to make membership, will let you go ahead and and be a part of that Ministry. So but that's kind of the exception to the rule and then leadership requirement. If you ever you want to become Amish or in leadership, or if you're going to be over Sisterhood or over me or anything like that, you would need to be a member of course, so. So though, Some of the things that we talked about the other thing too, I didn't mention here but it's kind of hard being hot in a hot rock group is when people get sick. We try to do meal trains and so will do if you're not with me with a meal train. Is it supposed to be a sign up for making sure that your family is provided for with meals? And we do that for our members as well. And so Sisterhood will do that for somebody who's not involved in the Habra, but it really would like to do it at the harbor on level. Think of the Harbour is basically a house congregation and your person being your Shepherd / you. So that's kind of what that is. And so I used to make the joke. If you see me come to the hospital, that means you're going to die. You don't want me to come. Visit you at the hospital. You want your hot rod later to come, visit you? And that's not necessarily true, but that's the, that's the joke. But so you see, me, your eyes get real big. So you really want your Harbor. All eager to be there first. Not right, but I do love. I don't love it as much now during Kobe, but I do love his new people in the hospital. Alright, what's the number of people have turned in their applications or present everyone to the congregation and have a celebration oneg for new members. That's also going to be in new shindig we do. So when we do celebrate you that weekend, we're going to have an oneg to honor our new members. Now, I can't guarantee you'll have a cupcake with your name on it. But we will have some bagels and Halle and your honor. So I will do that the week that we honor all of our new members. Okay. Well, we got through everything. So are we have 7 minutes left for general questions? Maybe we can even stretch it to 9:35 since the youth are going to come in. If you have any questions or comments. Any any topic is welcome at this point. Yes, sir.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Right.
So the view is that we want to know if you're carrying but it's okay to carry. Yep, and we have some folks are packing. We do a Donald one of them. I'm not going to reveal anybody else, but he tells everybody that but I won't reveal that cuz it's something we need to keep. But yes, we do. Absolutely. And I would just give you one example, we've never had an issue here. We had one time where early in the morning knowing Espinoza was going to worship team. He got out of his car and he was walking and a man pulled into the driveway. Got out of his car, pull out his carpet, in the end of his Islamic prayers on our site. And we got a little concerned and we, you know, kind of got him off of the property. Never had anything else like that happen. We've we've had a couple guys from Archer by John came by and just visited us and wanted to see how things were. And I just wanted to to see what the synagogue was all about. They were very nice people, never saw anything like that. Can any any any case we never had any issue? Baruch Hashem, and Dallas. You met her years ago had an issue. I broke a sham had nobody hurt. Thank you Lord, but they did have a, a Neo-Nazi come by and shoot up their synagogue during the service. I'm just kind of in a plaster bowl at spokes Wheaton. Like I said, that's why we talked about, you know, security, we talked about background checks cuz you all know that we live in a fallen world. And so, the answer your question. Yes. We are. Also also to let you know, we do have two full-time security people on site at all times. One of them is always back here in the back, watching the entire property from outside and the other one is roaming on the inside, and then there's Shannon. And if I'm ever in in a dark alley, I want Shannon on my team. Because she is a tough cookie. And so she also will take them down. So we we definitely have a lot of security. So that's a good question, actually. Okay. All right.
Yeah. Right.
Yes.
Yes, they do. Actually a lot of them do in fact that you can believe it or not. I had both of my kids circumcised on the 8th day by dr. Abraham for all names. We actually it back then. We had a wonderful couple and their congregation Sam. And Elaine Baron amazing story behind Sam and Elaine. They were sampling bronstein and they were from the Bronx, but when they were so much persecution was happening, when they were young. They change their name to Baron their son can work for several presidents, including Ronald Reagan, mazing family. He now works for for the Billy Graham Association, amazing, man. So the Barons were there with us in the office and did the prayers and what a blessing that was for us. And so you have to understand. This is new to me. I was like, I understand this stuff, but we just felt like and you know how our kids, my wife. Hard to do what we wanted to do it, as a gentile. Look, it's not something that you have to do. But yes, we greatly encouraged it and we definitely welcome it. I'm not a mole. I'm not that it look, don't do that service. Richard said, you know you want to go to medical school. Maybe you should learn how to do that. I'm like, I'm not sure I want to learn how to do that. So we don't have anybody house but we do have some folks. We can recommend. Also along those lines. We do other things. There's a thing called Penny on high band. The Redemption service will also do that. Now, a lot of people call it a baby dedication in the church, but we have a dedication of our children as well. All of them, but we also can do a pity on her Benz service. A dedication of the first born and where you're supposed to redeem them back for service from God. It's so, it's in the Torah and we actually have though, we don't really have shekels to pass out back to give to the rabbi's, but but we can't do that as well. So some of those cycle events are very important and will always want to honor that sack. That's a really good question. Nothing wrong with that question. All right, question. Yes, ma'am.
So the background check once, once you sign up for a some type of ministry where you're involved with children at that point, you would do your driver's license and give them your Social Security. Yeah, you children any any Ministry involved with young people. So anybody who's under a minor, anybody who's a minor you need to have a background check done before any other questions,? Let me just make sure you understand. We put the photo release information on here. Just like I said, we're not going to share your information. We are working on the process of an online directory. So but that online directory is also you have to give permission and we're not just going to throw your picture out there and and besides that, the only people that can see other people can log in, to the system. On the back. You'll see different Ministries that are here that are represented in a represented. Obviously, every single Ministry that we have here is not on there. So there's the other cat. There's also one here. I forgot to update that we don't have right now. It's the Harvest Food table, obviously, during covid weed, it away with the Harvest Food table. It is some, at, some point that might come back. What that is? If that's basically an act to idea of, if you haven't need, come get some food. If you don't have a need to come bring some food, canned goods, you know, non-perishables those kind of things. And so we haven't done that in a while cuz it covid, but he might come back up. So any other things are on the back there, the visitor, welcome tables. Now the information center, but everything else should be self-explanatory. On the statement of faith on the points. In the back there. I went ahead and put scriptures. We used to not have pictures but like I said, I want to make sure you understand that we're scripturally looking at the importance of being a part of the community and I put scriptures on the back of that. So you understand what we're coming from. Cuz there is no passage down. Shout join a congregation and sign your name on the dotted line. There's nothing like that. So if this is a philosophical thing we're talking about here, okay? All right. Any other questions on those are good though. Some good questions.
Alright, well, Mazel Tov, congratulations. You were finished with the foundation class. Give yourself a hand. Very good for you today. We had extra Donuts. So please take some on the way out. If you can, just leave your name tag, the book as yours, but we need to use the green thing again, if you don't mind, but we are so blessed that you've been with us for the last 4 weeks. We've enjoyed having you once again, you may join the congregation at this time, or you may not in it and I'm not going to look at you. Funny if you don't, but we were glad that you've been a part of this for Wii class to learn a little bit more about us. After this for weeks. You may go man. I'm not sure this is for me. I prayed about it, or maybe you say man, I can't wait and so if either one of the situations we want to be able to be here for you. Facilitate that are your spiritual journey and it's important that we are part of that and we can help you through that process. If you have any other questions always feel free, you can call up to the office and get me. Or you can email me anytime you want for the any question. No. Question isn't is a bad question? Yes, ma'am. Yeah, you can you can have them a card in there. You can keep the card. So we really need the lanyard part the green thing, but you need to keep the plastic part. I don't care about the green thing. We need to keep just cuz those things are hard to come by. Yes, sir.
Yes, you did. Well, actually you're treated differently cuz you didn't have to do the 10 hours of voluntary service. So that's already been answer right there. Okay. All right. Thing else, before we close the prayer today. You guys been a great class, really enjoyed having you. This is the one I like I said, you're the guinea pigs. It felt like probably a fire hydrant going off in a Dixie cup at times. The first couple of weeks. There's a lot of material because we know we used this class used to be 16 weeks, 16 weeks, then it was twelve, then it was 8 and then now it's 4. And so we're kind of trying to find that happy spot where we can kind of get everything you need to know in a in 4 weeks. Knowing you're not going to get all your questions answered. That's fine. But you can always come back to us and ask ask anything you want. Yes.
Yeah, so I'm going to send an email about that, and but that's a great question. I'm glad you asked that if you can, if you're if you're seriously considering membership, if you can get it to us by the end of October before the next class starts in November, that way we kind of have that cycle. If you can't. That's okay for some of you who go through membership now and finish it. There's got a couple of folks left over from the spring who we have introduced yet the congregation we will introduce them at the same time. We introduced you guys because we that kind of stuff happens and that's fine. But if you can just didn't hear the other reason why out of sight out of mind, right? So as soon as you get done with this class life happens and you're going to kind of forget about it, so I will send you an email this week in an email will have the digital format of this and we'll have this electronic class and it will tell you a little bit more about when you can turn that in and how you can do that. Alright, great question. All right, when you pray for us father God we are so thankful for this class that you brought into this space for these last four weeks or just ask you to bless him back. Thank you so much for their lives, but we just pray for health and safety over them and all we ask you to bring us into our Shabbat service today with joy and our hearts and help us to also returned safely to our homes. Come back on Monday night for our Rush on a service to celebrate. Your appointed feasts. Are we thank you for this class. Thank you for their lives and what you're doing in them and you sure his name. Amen. Thank you, everybody.
