Doxology
Notes
Transcript
A fitting end to the book is this doxology. It is one of four NT books that end with a doxology. A doxology is a liturgical form of praise to God. It can be recited or it can be sung. It would no doubt stick into the minds of the church that Jude is writing to.
This end would remind the truth of whom glory belongs and what he will do to help God’s people.
1, 2 Peter, Jude (4. Doxology (24–25))
The doxology reminds the readers of the heart and soul of the Christian life. All glory and majesty and power belong to God. He will be praised forever and ever by believers in Jesus Christ. In particular, Jude reminded his readers that God is able and willing to keep them from succumbing to apostasy. The false teachers threatened, but those who truly belong to the Lord will not capitulate. They will continue to be faithful until the end. - Thomas Schreiner

A. Keep you from stumbling
A. Keep you from stumbling
This idea of keep you from stumbling is guarding. In the beginning of Jude, there is the idea that we are kept in Christ. The false teachers will fail in their attempt to make true believers stray...
3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
This does not mean that Christians won’t sin, but rather, that they will not be found to turn away from Christ, apostasy.
B. Present you blameless
B. Present you blameless
Jesus will present us blameless before the throne. His righteousness will clothe us. Sin will not be held against us, and He will present us as His own, holy.
God will complete his saving work on day of full glory, and it is his great joy to do so!
II. The Only God
II. The Only God
The one true God receives true honor and glory, through what Jesus has done for us. In other words, we are able to glorify God our Savior through the the saving work of His Son for us.
Glory:
11 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
Glory is described of God (He is glorious). Glory is ascribed to God (Men and women give glory to him)
Majesty:
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
Majesty relates to the greatness of God
Dominion
17 The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.’
Power over a certain area, and God has power over all areas of life.
Authority: The right to use the power.
III. For All Time
III. For All Time
The triad of past, present, and future. All these praises, to Him who has done, does, and will do. Glory forever. Majesty forever. Dominion/power forever. Authority forever. He has had it from eternity past, currently does, and will do so forever.
