16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Recap:
Last week, we talked about how God created the world and everything in it. Shortly after the creation account, sin entered the world, completely altering God’s design forever.
In John 3, we get a glimpse of God’s plan to restore his creation to right standing with God.
1. Crazy Love (v. 16)
1. Crazy Love (v. 16)
When I think about the love that God and His Son Jesus have for me, I can’t help but think how crazy it is.
Love is as passionate as it may be at times, is often conditional.
In a romantic relationship. You can love someone as long as that person loves you well. If they treat you like a piece of garbage, then you should put them out with the garbage. But that relationship ends.
In a friendship. You can love your friend with all that you are, but the moment they stop supporting you or talking behind your back. You usually cut them off or you are ready to throw hands. The relationship ends.
Verse 16 mentions that God loved the WORLD. Sometimes we focus so much on what the Bible does say, but I want to focus on what it doesn’t say:
It doesn’t say that God so loved:
The Christian
The giver
the “good” person
the church attended
When it says that God so the World it means:
The Sinner AND the Saint
God’s love is not contingent on who you are or what you have done, but his forgiveness is.
The passage goes on to say that whoever believes in God will not perish. Can you simply believe in God and go to heaven? The answer to that question is no, because believing should be always lead to action.
Kind of like the tooth fairy, you either believe in the tooth fairy or you don’t, but I bet if you do, you placed you tooth under the pillow when you went to sleep.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
God’s love is real and it lives through His Son, Jesus.
2. New Life (v.17)
2. New Life (v.17)
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
God didn’t send His son to us to punish us, but actually because of how He loves us and the Life that he wants us to have.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The idea that Christ came to help us live our best life and it is only obtainable because He came to die on the Cross.
By Jesus dying on the cross, he paid our debt in full. When we choose to acknowledge the sacrifice that He made and choose to live our lives for Jesus instead of ourselves, that is when your best life starts.
Your best life is not drinking, sleeping around, lying, or giving your parents a hard time. Your best life is loving God and loving people.
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
3. Real Living (v.18)]
3. Real Living (v.18)]
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
There is no condemnation when we know Jesus.
You are blameless and have a whole new road in front of you!
10 fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
