Matthew 9:35-38
The Berlin candy Bomber
An Air Force pilot Halvorsen also known as "wiggle wings"
In 1948 after the WW2 East Berlin was under the control of the Soviet Union and Stalin closed it off to the rest of the world
starving over 2 million people. America then became involved by flying in food and supplies into east Berlin which was unknown as the Berlin air lift. During that time is when one of the pilots notices that many of the kids had never had candy before. so from what little he could get from other men and pilots he began to drop in candy as he flu over schools and kids playing. He made little parachutists out of his own bed sheets.
One little girl who grow up and became a tour guide never forgot what she saw as a kid. Now as she take people through East Berlin she tells them about her life in Soviet Berlin. She tells them of what little food they had and how they could only wear clothes they were told to wear and only learned what the government would let her. She tells people of how pour her family was, how they had no hope. Then she says one day while playing outside of school little pieces of candy began to fall from the sky. How she would keep one piece of candy for weeks just to save the taste as long as she could. then about 5 weeks later some more would fall.
Not long after Gail Halvorsen start other pilots began to do the same and not long after that people back in the states got word. Soon big candy makers like Nestle's found out and they started sending candy over to East Berlin. After a while through the offers and time from the Air Force pilots they were dropping over 850 pound of candy a day into East Berlin. by the end it all they had dropped more than 23 tons of candy.
So that people like the little girl who left like they were without out hope, who had their families and friends ripped from them because they lived on the other side of the wall would have a little bit of hope. After the wall came down this young lady made her way into the rest of Germany and she said this about the candy "it wasn't really the candy that meant so much, it was knowing that we had not been forgotten and that there was still hope."
I want to tell you this young people that there are people right here in the Ozarks who feel as they have been forgotten. there are dads who have walked out one their families this week. there are 1000's of families that are torn apart bc of Drugs. There are 1000's of people in these few cities that are way down in the darkest places of Sin. Our Goal as a Church, our Goal as a Youth Group, or Vision this year, our Goal as Christians is to air lift the GOSPEL TO THIS WORLD AROUND US. You know sometimes even to myself I ask what ever happened to Compassion. We see on the news about people who are beaten in big crowds and people are just standing watching we hear of just curl curl things going on right around us. All we say was that’s sad and we move on. But people are so quick to judge others through the internet and Facebook. But where is the Compassion?
Where are the Christians who will show the love of Jesus Christ today?
It is my prayer that this youth group and this church would be an extension of the Lord Jesus and show Compassion to those around us. How? by doing what Jesus did in verse 35 Preach the gospel of the kingdom.
You know giving candy to a hopeless chid is nice. Giving food, and clothes to those in need is great but when you tell someone of the true hope that is in Jesus that is something even greater!

I. Jesus Saw and was moved

v.36

Saw

I love that the Bible points out that Jesus Saw the multitudes.
Lamentations 3:51 KJV 1900
Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.
Jesus didn't just look, let me challenge you tonight that you wouldn't just see the people around you as just another person but see them as someone who Christ died for!
The Bible says that when Jesus saw Jerusalem he wet and cried over the city. maybe when we look out at Springfield, Willard, Republic, Ash Grove, Nixa, Ozark, and so on we would not just see cities but a place full of people who Christ loves and died for!!

Moved

Not only did He see the people he was Moved with Compassion! When was the last time we looked and something and was moved in our heart? Kids at School...
you know its easy to talk about a child with a bad home and family in and need and feel sorry for them and want to show some compassion. But what about a rich man who is as Lost as those pour Kids? He just as lost as they are! He needs hope to! when was the last time if ever you were moved to see the lost saved??

II. Jesus' Prayer request

v.37-38
Jesus had one prayer request that was to pray for those to see the need and see those without hope or THE HOPE! Who would have some compassion to this lost and dying world. Maybe YOU are the answer for that request to be a missionary to a place with 1% or less that know the name of Jesus!
Maybe we need to pray today that God would help us to see people with the eyes of Christ! maybe we just need tonight as we go, so some love and compassion of Christ.
Will you be Consumed with Compassion as Christ was tonight? Are you the Answer to the prayer request of our Lord??
