Therefore…WDTM?
Therefore…WDTM?
The therefore relates to the previous section: because we know that Jesus has been tempted and helps those who are tempted, lets spend some time thinking about Him in two ways: our apostle and our High Priest
Apostle: sent one. The one who has sent from God. Arrow down.
High Priest: representative of people. Arrow up.
So you know how great Moses was? Well, you are looking the wrong way. Don’t praise the house, praise the builder! And don’t forget that you have the opportunity to be a part of that house(hold) by having faith in this guy! He continues to build His house!
He then quotes Psalm 95 which speaks to what happens if we don’t do what v. 6 calls us to do. This Psalm talks about when the people did not believe God was going to protect them in the promised land even though He has shown His daily faithfulness for 40 years! They were not allowed to enter into God’s rest. God is serious about this!
The author calls them to diagnose their own hearts and make sure that they are not doubting the living God! What is the remedy/cure/prevention? Encouragement. Daily. “Hey, what day is it?” “Today.” “Well, then I guess I should say something encouraging...” Because sin is going to keep lying to you so we need to battle that by encouraging each other with truth.
Just to recap: the people of God who were led out of Egypt did not enter. What makes you think you are safe?
