NEW SERIES: were gonna be spending some time talking about family. How amazing is a FAMILY.
Ephesians 3:14-15 “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,”
I think about some of the families that make up COLONIAL CHURCH. I think of our Family. Jill, me The kids. The McCloghry FAMILY. I think of Jill’s parents. Our greater family THE ROBSHAW’S. I think of the families that make up our church family: The Robshaw’s, the Appleby’s, The Davis’, The Andersons, The Fairs, The Kuwabara’s, The Aussem’s, Dettra’s, The Deluca’s, The Gammells, The Harris’, The Mckenzies, the Morans.....
I could GO ON - But our FAMILY IS MADE UP OF FAMILIES!
then Why is the family unit under attack? I want to bring some clarity to this because so much has changed in the past 50 years. Marriage is under attack because Family is under attack. and i think its because there is just a huge lack of understanding of how IMPORTANT Family is in our society, our culture - and so the devil’s going
We need to have a POSITIVE and a FOCUS On THRIVING, HEALTHY MARRIAGES AND FAMILIES BECAUSE THATS GODS DESIGN FOR OUR LIVES.

SO FAMILY MATTERS - Here we go. why?
1.GOD LOVES FAMILY.

Family is GODS idea.
not ours.
Let me show you a few verses about how God views FAMILY: a mix of a bunch of verses here to set us up:
Exodus 20:12 “12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
Psalm 127:3-5 “3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”
Genesis 1:28 “28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Ephesians 6:4 “4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Genesis 2:24 “24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Genesis 18:19 “19 For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.””
Why does God love family. Because he Loves RELATIONSHIP. We were designed for FAMILY and loving RELATIONSHIP.
Paul gets into this in 1 Corinthians responding to an eclectic, emotional, rollercoaster driven group of believers who hadn’t yet understood the power of this “FAMILY” they were now apart of.
MY BURDEN: IS I HOPE IT WILL DAWN ON YOU HOW INCREDIBLE IT IS THAT YOU & I ARE IN GODS FAMILY THIS MORNING.
As we dive into it this morning .... what is FAMILY ABOUT.
1.Family is a place to belong. (Colonial CHurch is a place to belong..... Not exculsive but INCLUSIVE). I just have to say this to someone in the room “YOU BELONG IN GODS FAMILY” its your ULTIMATE PLACE OF BELONGING. Because nothing you can DO, or SAY, or NO amount of Bad behavior can DISPLACE you from HIS PLACE FOR YOU
2.Family is a place where we know each other (Colonial Church is a place to be seen). Family is where you dont have to walk in everytime and introduce yourslelf. in GODS FAMILY. you are KNOWN. You are a KNOWN QUANTITY. Thats the way it is. He knows you.
Psalm 139:13 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”
Luke 12:7 “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
3.Family is a place where were unified (in spirit, in cause, in suffering). Were on the same side!
paul uses the picture of the human body to parralel the spiritual body. the family of God. each one having a key role.
1 Corinthians 12:21-26 “21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”

here is the don’t: YOU HAVE A PART TO PLAY!
WRITE THIS DOWN: “YOU MIGHT NOT GET EVERYTHING, BUT EVERYONE GETS SOMETHING”
Its no different when it comes to family!
4.Family is a place where we get cared for. (God knew that care would be needed). Colonial Church is a place of CARE. (stats on how many care appointment’s we’ve had?
2.HE HAS A PLACE FOR YOU.

**story of making NAMED places at the table.
There is a spot reserved in Gods heavenly family = JUST FOR YOU.
Did you know that>?
There is a place for you in the house of GOD>
At the TABLE OF GOD: God has a place purposed and set aside JUST FOR YOU.
3.JESUS MADE A WAY FOR ALL OF THIS.

Hebrews 12:1
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Ive often thought about what that Joy was to Jesus?
I think it was how there was going to be a GREAT BIG EXTENDED FAMILY being created through this...
...... and HE SAW YOU.
Whats stopping you from seeing FAMILY this way?
Maybe you had a fratcured family or a Struggle!
MAYBE YOU FEEL ALONE?
Let the words of King David reassure yoU!
Here is the truth today.
GODS FAMILY, IS YOUR FAMILY.
ITS NO LONGER US AND THEM.... ITS WE:
John 20:17
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
I am ascending to my FATHER>
and YOUR Father
to My God
And to YOUR GOD.
Jesus made it all possible. To be in the FAMILY OF GOD.
