The Example We Should Follow!
1 Peter 2:21-23 “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;”
Notice the first four words in 3:1 In The Same Way
Who did Peter address in 3:1? In the same way, You Wives . . .
In The Same Way . . .
I. WIVES Should SUBMIT Like Christ!
What is the CALLING that Peter mentioned in 2:21 For you have been CALLED for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you and example for you to follow in His steps!
A. Notice the EXHORTATION that you should RECEIVE!
1 Peter 3:1 In the SAME WAY, you WIVES, be submissive to your own husbands
What does it mean to be Submissive?
B. Notice the POWER that you can UNLEASH!
1 Peter 3:1 . . . so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives
1 Peter 3:2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior
What does every husband need from their wife? R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
How does a husband OBSERVE chaste and respectful behavior from their wife?
Is there a Biblical Example women can and or should follow?
1 Peter 3:3-4 “Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.”
1 Peter 3:5 “For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands;”
What does the phrase, holy women—who hoped in God mean?
How did Sarah demonstrate that she was a holy woman who hoped in God and how did she demonstrate her submission to and respect for Abraham when he was being disobedient to the word?
1 Peter 3:6 “just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.”
In The Same Way . . .
II. HUSBANDS Should SERVE Like Christ!
1 Peter 3:7 “You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.”
A. Notice the ATTITUDE we should POSSESS!
1 Peter 3:7 You husbands LIKEWISE, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman
Who is Peter addressing in 3:7 and what does the phrase LIKEWISE refer to?
What does the phrase understanding way mean?
B. Notice the HONOR we should REVEAL!
1 Peter 3:7 . . . as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman
What does the phrase weaker vessel mean and what does the word woman mean in this context?
C. Notice the RESULT we should AVOID!
1 Peter 3:7 . . . so that your prayers may not be hindered
In what way can a husbands prayers be hindered?
What is one way a husband can immediately improve his prayer life?
