Each week we look at a different Faith Story

This week, we are going to look at the story of a blind man who was healed by Jesus, and the effects of this healing.

INTRO

PASSAGE

John 9:1–7 (ESV)

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

I cant accomplish what I have been asked to do, or make the changes to my house, if I don’t first understand how to use the tools that I have been given.

We are called to use our FAITH

So you and I need to UNDERSTAND our FAITH

One of the biggest things that amazes me about our age group is that we TALK about things all the time but we don’t understand how they work.

Have you ever had a conversation about something and after, totally realize that you had no idea what you were talking about?

We are called not to just know what faith is! But understand how it works in our lives.

And I THINK THAT THIS STORY HOLDS A FUNDAMENTAL KEY TO OUR FAITH HERE TODAY

OBSERVATION

PT ONE: I’M MADE FOR ACTION

And I think we need to understand that:

FOLLOWING JESUS IS USING SIMPLE FAITH.

FOLLOWING ALWAYS REQUIRES ACTION

There is action to your faith.

YOUR SIMPLE FAITH IN JESUS IS CALLING YOU INTO ACTION.

AND THAT ACTION LEADS TO CHANGE

Look at the man… BEFORE HE WAS HEALED HE WAS CALLED TO ACTION

John 9:7 ESV

and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

And Jesus as well mentioned this work, this action right before he sent him.

John 9:4–5 ESV

We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Faith is all about action. THIS IS HOW OUR FAITH WORKS

TO BE HONEST

I think a lot of us have faith! THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE ISSUE.

But we just don’t know how to USE it.

BEST BUY - BUYING A GAME WITH MY ALLOWANCE

I had the money, but I had no idea what to do with it.

We are not called to wander through life with Faith without Works

The world out there NEEDS OUR FAITH

SO We are called to USE SIMPLE FAITH

So how do we use our faith?

Harder verse but it is the truth, READY? (THE BIBLE IS THE TRUTH)

James 2:14–20 (NLT)

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

(FAITH PRODUCES GOOD DEEDS NOT US) ITS NOT YOUR ACTION ITS FAITHS ACTION IN YOU

Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

WE ARE CALLED TO HAVE SIMPLE FAITH

BUT WHAT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT WE ARE CALLED TO

USE SIMPLE FAITH!

The BLIND MAN was called to action

Peter walking on water was called to action

The man lame man outside of temple was called to stand

The man lowered through the ceiling was called to get up

The people around Lazarus were called to roll away the stone

The People helping Jesus to turn water to wine were told to fill the containers

The woman with bleeding, reached and touched his Garment

I CAN KEEP GOING

YOUR FAITH IS ACTIVATED WITH ACTION

AND THE AMAZING THING IS THAT ACTION LEADS TO CHANGE!

Faith First - Action Second - Change Third.

I WANT CHANGE NOW

LIKE I SAID LAST WEEK

Biggest problem in our Age group

TAKE WHAT WE WANT AND LEAVE WHAT WE DON’T

WANT THE GLAM WITHOUT THE HAM -

You know what that’s called? A SCAM!

WE TREAT FAITH LIKE A CREDIT CARD

FAITH IS NOT A CREDIC CARD

But so many of us view faith like this

“I WILL TAKE YOUR TRANSFORMATION POWER, AND THEN IF IT WORKS, IF IT FEELS GOOD, IF IT FIXES ME, IF IT IS AS GREAT AS PEOPLE SAY...

THEN I WILL GIVE YOU MY BELIEF”

Disciples, WHY IS THIS MAN LAME, WHY IS HE LESS THAN

NOT ENOUGH

LIKE YOU DON’T ADD UP

John 9:3 ESV

Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.

HE WAS MADE FOR CHANGE

YOU ARE MADE FOR CHANGE

BUT HERE IS THE THING THE CHANGE IN HIM WAS NOT FOR HIM BUT FOR THOSE AROUND HIM!!!!

WHAT IF WHAT YOU ARE CARRYING IS MADE FOR THE BREAKTHROUGH FOR THOSE AROUND YOU?

THIS STORY… IT WAS ABOUT THIS MAN… BUT REALLY IT WAS NOT ABOUT THIS MAN. IT WAS ABOUT THE FAITH THAT WAS RAISED IN THOSE AROUND HIM… AND THE FAITH IN THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM POINT TO JESUS

WHEN WE USE OUR SIMPLE FAITH THERE IS ALWAYS A GREATER IMPACT.

WHAT YOU CARRY IS MORE ABOUT OTHERS AND JESUS THAN WE GIVE IT CREDIT FOR…

YOU WILL GET NO GLORY FOR THE MIRACLE

LIKE THE BLIND MAN GOT NO GLORY IN THE MIRACLE

John 9:8–12 ESV

The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.” So they said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.” They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”

IF IT WAS ABOUT THE MAN THEN EVERYONE WOULD HAVE BEEN WASHING IN THE RIVER...

THE MANS HEALING FAITH AND TRANSFORMATION WAS MORE FOR THOSE AROUND THAN IT WAS FOR HIMSELF.

WHAT YOU CARRY IS LESS ABOUT YOU THAN YOU THINK IT IS… ITS ABOUT THE GLORY OF JESUS CHRIST THE KING THAT IS ON THE THRONE, THAT SEES YOU, WANTS YOU, LOVES YOU, BUT ALSO EVERYONE THAT IS AROUND YOU…

CHANGE FOR THEM.. NOT FOR YOU

PT TWO: I’M MADE TO TRUST

His Faith, lead to his healing, and lead to greater faith in himself, But here is the truth in those that are around.

THE MANS FAITH FOR LEAD TO HIS ACTION WHICH LEAD TO HIS TRANSFORMATION WHICH LEAD TO BUILDING OF HIS FAITH AND THE FAITH OF THOSE AROUND.

But it all started with FAITH FOR something that was directly rooted to TRUST

THE MAN COULD HAVE JUST WASHED IN ANY OLD BASON OR TROFF

BUT HIS FAITH FOR HIS HEALING WAS ROOTED IN TRUST IN JESUS.

The action of our faith is directly rooted to our Trust in Jesus

I got some helpers that can come down front.

I would never go into the action of falling off this stage UNLESS I trusted who is going to catch me.

So many of us want to see the transformation but we neglect where it comes from! It comes from having obedient Faith.

And I think the first thing that we need to understand is that we were made to USE OUR FAITH. NOT JUST SIT ON IN

THAT BRINGS ME TO MY FIRST POINT, I HAVE THREE THINGS THAT WE WERE MADE FOR WHEN IT COMES TO OUR LIVES IN FAITH

SO many of us want things to be different, we want to be better, we want to be healed, we want the TRANSFORMATION but we want it without the APPLICATION.

WE NEED EVEN IF IN AND AFTER BELEIF

WE saw this last week with Thomas…

Would rather go to DEATH with Jesus than LIFE WITHOUT

OUR FAITH IS VALUABLE…

We want so badly to have faith work in us… But lets be honest how many of us have faith for something.

John 2 Water into Wine

Mary had FAITH for the miracle

BUT HER FAITH CAME FROM RELATIONSHIP

The faith for something comes FROM relationship

Having relationship with Jesus, increases your faith

Having relationship with his people increases your faith

John 2:11 ESV

This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

The glory of God that is in us is there, and the works of faith cause it to be MANIFESTED in us. IN OTHER WORDS GOD WORKING THROUGH US CAUSES OTHERS TO SEE HIM IN US
