In this passage we are shown the two types of families and the FEATURES of those types.

I. The Problem of His Worldly Family. vs.31-32

They were outside. v.31

31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.

He was inside. v.32

32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.

II. The People of His Heavenly Family. vs.33-35

A question that has answers. v.33

33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

An answer that leaves no question. v.34

34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

They are doers of God’s will. v.35a

35 For whosoever shall do the will of God,

They are blood related. v.35b

the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

How does someone become part of Jesus’ family?

and we are blood bought and born again into His family by the grace of God.
