Knowledge is Power!
Proverbs 1:1–7 ESV
1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: 2 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, 3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; 4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth— 5 Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, 6 to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:1 ESV
1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
Solomon was the wisest man to ever lived (1 Kings 3:11)
People would come from all over just to hear his wisdom
We have a curated list called Proverbs.

Why should I read Proverbs?

Commonly pull dig to find supportive anecdotes
Warn unruly children or help them through a tough decision..
Or maybe as garnish on a paper or at the bottom of an email.
You see proverbs pop up all over the place … but why study them?
Proverbs 1:2 ESV
2 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,
the is something for us To Know:
wisdom & instruction
KNOW = be aware of …
Solomon wishes to expose us to wisdom and instruction
there is something for us to To Understand:
words of insight
Not simply to hear
But to understand these words of insight
Proverbs 1:3 ESV
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
We have something to receive...
But we don’t receive it as a T“jewel our crown”
It is given for a purpose.
dealing in righteousness, justice, and equity.
This instruction is also some we need to willing to “receive”.
We cannot simply hear these word … we must also ponder (PRAYERFULLY) in order to understand them.
Knowledge that is universal.
Proverbs 1:4 ESV
4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—
You don’t need a degree to obtain knowledge
Study of these proverbs allows the simplest among us to be prudent (understanding)
To the youth among us
“Make good decisions!”
these proverbs are for just that
“discretion to the youth.”
With all that is available to us in terms of knowledge, what is our obligation?

“hear and increase in learning”...
“obtain guidance”
What is our first lesson?
Proverbs 1:7 ESV
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Where does all the knowledge and wisdom start?
