If I were to ask you, what is the #1, most important, biggest thing that a Christian must do! What would you say?
Meaning, if you claim to be a follower of Christ you have to do this!
It’s this: LOVE!
If you claim to love Jesus and have a relationship with him, then it means that you have to love others just as Jesus loved you!
In fact, Jesus actually tells his disciples this in the book of John:

34“I give you a new command. Love one another. You must love one another, just as I have loved you. 35If you love one another, everyone will know you are my disciples.”

Jesus says, whenever people see you, and they see how you love other people, no matter what, then they will know that you follow me!
Did you know that is still true today? At school, here at daycare, at home, people should know that you follow Jesus, not just because you tell them, or because you wear a shirt that says “I love Jesus” or because they see you carry around your Bible–Jesus says that people at school and daycare and at home should know that you are his follow because of how you love!
You love people who are easy to love and those who are hard to love. You love people who get under your skin and who make you mad. You love those you are hurting and those who are happy. Jesus says, people will know you by your love!
But here’s the thing. Love is so much more than just a feeling. How many people would say that they love candy? TV? Video games? Their parents?
We love a lot of things. But the love that Jesus is talking about is so much more!
Look at what John says in 1 John 3:18:

18Dear children, don’t just talk about love. Put your love into action. Then it will truly be love.

John says, don’t just say you love people, don’t just say you love the people that are hard to love. Don’t just say you love your brother and sister, your friends, your parents, your family, your school mates, you daycare class. Instead, put your love into action. You show your love by what you do!
How do I show my wife that I love her?
How can you show other people that you love them?
