I would say with the exception of some children in this room, many of us have been to a wedding at some point in our lives.
Every wedding has many of the same components, the couple will recite their vows, they will exchange rings, they will say I do, and kiss the bride.
What makes the wedding unique, however, is the man and the woman standing before God and the witnesses. We are here to celebrate Isaac and Zoe and their lifelong commitment to each other.
When Isaac and Zoe asked me to be a part of this special day, immediately, I thought about the supernatural nature of marriage.
Only in the genius of God can two people from different families, with different backgrounds, having different opinions and perspectives come together and spend the rest of their life growing deeper in love with each other.
God instituted marriage. He designed it to be between a natural born male and a natural born female. It was part of the miracle of creation.
I find it interesting that Jesus performed His first miracle at a wedding.
John 2:11 (TPT)
11 This miracle in Cana was the first of the many extraordinary miracles Jesus performed in Galilee. This was a sign revealing his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
While I firmly believe that marriage is a miracle, I also know that I stand in a church where miracles, signs, and wonders are part of it’s DNA.
I know Isaac has seen his fair share of miracles in his life.
I know Zoe has participated in witnessing God perform the miraculous.
So my thought is this:
God gave man and woman a miracle called marriage
Jesus performed his first miracle at a wedding
We’ve gathered with a group of believers who firmly believe in, expect, and regularly experience miracles
And standing before you and me are two people who have participated in the miraculous.
Then it stands to reason and believe that together, Isaac and Zoe are about to enter into a miraculous marriage.
Together, they will experience miracle after miracle. And together they will find that the miracle of marriage is so supernaturally wonderful.
So we join not to have a sweet ceremony. But to become eyewitnesses of a miracle in the making.
Only God can take two halves and make it into a whole. From here on out, when we think of Isaac we will think of Zoe. When we see Zoe, we will expect to see Isaac.
Today, we will witness a miracle. For I firmly believe that we stand before GOD and these witnesses. Though we cannot see Him, He is here standing with Isaac and Zoe.
It is true they are professing and committing their love to each other. But really, their inviting Jesus to perform another miracle at another wedding— this miracle is called marriage.
Thank God for the miracle of marriage.
Zechariah 14:7 (NKJV)
7 It shall be one day Which is known to the Lord Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen That it will be light.
