In The Beginning
In The Beginning
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1 : The Origin of Life
Genesis 1 : The Origin of Life
In Genesis 1 God speaks and the world obeys, taking on form and function. God gives order to emptiness.
Even to the deepest degree, God establishes everything, just by the word of His mouth.
God calls things that are not existing as existing
As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, the one who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.
The word of God will continue to be a major theme throughout the Bible.1

What does Gen 1 reveal about god?
God is Alpha and the Omega-
1:1-Before anything was, God was. He is the uncaused cause of everything. By His own will all things were create in Heaven and on Earth for His Glory- there is no accident. All things were created by God and for God (Col 1:16)
For everything was created by him,
in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities—
all things have been created through him and for him.
God was before all things and will be after all things- He is eternal.
Because God created everything, there is nothing that is eternal outside of God
God is creator and therefore God is creative-
All things were created by God and for God-
Col 1:15-20
God in His wisdom, created everything for something- namely for His glory
As Creator, God is over all of His creation. Everything is subject to His will.
God rules over all the universe and nothing in creation is to be worshiped instead of God or in addition to God
Gen 1:3- Shows the power of God’s creative word. He speaks and it is.
Jesus; the word made flesh (John 1:1-3); speaks and it is.
Healings
Forgiveness
Every Word that came from His mouth.
He is the Creative Word of God
Jesus does the works that only God can do-
Gives sight to the sightless- Ps 146:8 ; John 9
Gen 1:3-5; 14-19- Nothing is impossible for God. He is not limited to any scientific laws for He is the author of those laws. He created light before The sun and stars, because He is sufficient. He doesn’t need anything, He holds everything together.
Gen 1 God is author of all life (John 1:3). By His very words everything that there is came into existence both physical and spiritual (Rev 10:6; Acts 4:24; Neh 9:6). Gen 1:2, He needed nothing to accomplish this. “ex-nihilo” out of nothing- There was a time when nothing existed. Ps 90:2
Romans 4:17 - But if God speaks to or calls something that does not exist, as if in fact it did exist, then what is implied? If he calls things that do not exist as though they existed, it must mean that they will soon exist, irresistibly called into existence.1

“God created the entire universe out of nothing; it was originally very good; and he created it to glorify himself1”

Christ Connection: Jesus is God, and was active on the Creation of the world (John 1:1-3; Col 1:15-20) and because of sin entering the world Jesus is the active agent in the New Creation of all who put their faith in Him ( 2 Cor 5:17; Col 3:9-11; Col 3:9-11; Romans 6:4; Romans 6:6; Rev 21:1-3)
Jesus is Lord over all of creation. The Son has always existed. The Bible says everything was created by Him and for Him, and He holds everything together. All of creation exists to bring God glory.
