Text: I Timothy 6:3-18
In these closing words Paul will draw to a close the conversations that he has started. He is working with four groups of people.
The Worker
The Wicked
The Wise
The Wealthy
- Wilmington, The Outline Bible.
The worker should be faithful as a servant to God. The Christians employer should love him with the same kindness recieved from Christ.
Here Paul will point back to the practical teaching he has given to Timothy and then remind Timothy what is at risk.
False teachers will pervert the truth. (3)
Christ’s words give life
Bible doctrine brings Godliness
False teachers have a payday (4)
Corrupted Minds
Destitution of Truth
Desire for wealth
Godly leaders abandon them
Simple Principle: vs 6
Godliness with contentment is great gain.
What matters in your life is what you get to take with you. (vs7)
One of the most misquoted verses vs 10
It is the Love of Money...That indicates that the problems man face has nothing to do with money but the heart of man is the problem.
The heart of the problem is a problem of the heart.
The one who loves money (namely the false teachers, but they were leading the congregation through these means. The reason that he church was willing to follow the false teacher is they were being tempted by the idea of gain. That happens today. There are still “churches” filled every week with the promise of God’s blessings.)
Those that will love money set themselves up.
Opened up to multiple temptations (9)
Weakens Faith Resolutions (10)
Is Avoidable (11)
It is a sad thing to watch Christians walk closer and closer to this world. They pull away from serving God to get a few more hours at work. They communicate a little less. They begin to shift away from the all in nature of walking with Christ and before long they walk away from God fully assured that the church is decieved and they are right.
Chase after Righteousness (11)
Get back in a warfare mentality. (12)
The driving motivation of the contented...
Not that you will not have to face the consequences of your sin.
That is selfish.
The correct motivation is always Christ.
Our Savior fought it why do you get a vacation. (13)
Our Savior has his sights set on his return. (14)
Our Savior is worthy because of his postion. (15)
It is easy to think that Christ is great because of what he has done for us but this is shortsighted. He is great because he is who he is.
Potentate
King of Kings
Lord of Lords
Immortal
Invisible
God all Mighty
The only response that is correct is
humility before such agreat God. (17)
Good works (18)
Heavenly mindedness (19)
