And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
A talent of silver equal $7500.00
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
The Sin Of Being Too Busy
Everyone thinks at times that he or she is the busiest person on earth.
Entering the office, store or factory, one hears the statement, “This is my busy day”.
If you approach the ordinary individual concering some project aside from the regular routine, and he or she will likely say, “I haven’t time”.
Why?
Because people are so busy with big business is no reason why they should neglect the claims of the biggest man in the world.
Jesus Christ was both big and busy.
Nowbody was bigger or busier than He.
Yet He always found time to be about His Father business.
The Story
The children of Isreal had beaten the Syrians.
They captured the leader who was marked for punishment and intrusted to keep watch on him for Ahab the King.
Upon a ridicules pretext he let the captive escape.
He excuse was that he had been to busy with other things they let the captive escape.
I. This Is The Notable Sin Of Many
We are always busy, too busy to accept Christ, to busy to lead others to Jesus.
Jesus warned us against the high crime of preoccupation.
In the parable of the soils, Jesus lamented the highest life being choked out by the pursuit of other things.
Clutching at the throat of spiritual life are three death dealing hands:
Worldly cares
a. This is unnecessary anxiety. It is unrelaxing attention to material things the to
exclusion of preparation for the eternal. Subtle in the lure promising joy they
become deceivers.
b. Deceitfulness of riches. Christ was speaking of the fruitage of worldly toils.
Christ warned the prosperous farmer that he could not feed his soul on corn.
Unless he controls both production and use of every income, it chokes out
eternal life.
c. The excessive pursuit of things. This may be nothing criminal. Just things
displacing him (The Lord). It may be only tasks, social engagements, business
commitments one after another until preoccupation leaves no room for Jesus.
II. The Sin Of Being Too Busy Often Leads To Dodging Duty
Humanity crowds the courtroom when God holds court with sinners.
Though not rebellious against God, we may simply kick duty under the bed while we imagine God is not looking our way.
Setting profit or pleasure above the welfare of our fellows is sinful.
We love God and serve Him only as we love and serve our neighbors..
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
III. Christ Needs Busy People
Christ needs big busy men and women for a big busy business.
His is the biggest business in the world.
It is winning men and women to Christ instead of letting the die and go to hell
because we are too busy been busy.
May we preserve our moral equilibrium, speed up our spiritual development, and live happier lives because we find time for Christ
