longing for the kingdom of God (metaphor for our deepest longings)

The Baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9-11)

Why baptized? → to identify with us

Heb 4:15-16

What is revealed? → Jesus is God, 2nd person of trinity.

The Temptation of Jesus (Mark 1:12-13)

Jesus endures the same temptation we all do (Heb 4)

Jesus succeeds where Adam, Israel and you and I fail.

Jesus does what we could not do for ourselves

Jesus overcomes the devil.

The Kingdom of Jesus (Mark 1:14-15)

Victorious over Satan he begins his ministry of the kingdom.

The Kingdom of God is (Preaching, Power, Peace & Prosperity)

Repent (turn, change allegiance)

Believe (the good news) that the Kingdom has Come with the King.

Application: (Calling of disciples)

Have you identified with Christ through baptism

Do you recognize Jesus has God

Do you accept his victory over satan for your life?

his righteousness?

Have you come under his rule through repentance and faith?

So what does life in the Kingdom look like? What does life following this king look like?

That is what Mark is going to show us. The Kingdom of God has come and this is what it looks like.

The kingdom of God is a people called by God, to preach and teach the word of God, demonstrate the power of God (to heal the sick, cast out demons)
