What Have I Done Unto Thee?
Part 1
Introduction:
In our bible reading we find the call of God upon the life of Elisha.
Don’t look to the right or the left look deep into your own hearts and ask yourself this question.
What has God call you to do?
I. This Call Was Urgent
The moment that Elijah mantle touched this farmer, something supernatural happen that Elisha had never before felt or experience in his life.
His first reaction was one of urgency.
He could not continue with what he was doing and started to run.
The urgency of God’s calling had so gripped his life that he dare not even stop or tarry to try and reason it away.
a. This has happen to so many, they know that God has put his call on them.
b. But their carnal reason takes over and they try to reason it out from a natural standpoint.
c. The the urgency to respond is dampened.
d. You see reason never called anyone into God service, it is the response of faith that saves.
e. It is the response of humility that cause a man or woman to forsake his own way and understanding and say yes to the Lord.
Listen to the apostle Paul in his own words:
Galatians 3:3 KJV 1900
Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
II. This Call Was Supernatural And Life Transforming
We need the experience of the supernatural in our lives.
a. This is why we come to church.
b. Supernatural - beyond what is natural or above the norm; something greater than the ordinary course of events.
c. You will get your fill of the natural everyday as you work and move in an ungodly environment where there is profanity, oppression, fightings, arguing and backbiting on every level.
d. When it comes time for church service, the christian longs to get into God’s house where he can leave the natural and experience God.
c. They come looking for something to lift them above and beyond the natural. (David was glad to get into the house of God).
Psalm 63:1 KJV 1900
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, My flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
A dry well want quench a man or woman thirst.
Elisha ran after the prophet and his inquiry was this:
Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother and then I will follow thee.
Elijah replied go back again, for what have I done to thee?
This is what Elijah was saying:
Don’t explain it to me, it wasn’t me that called you.
It wasn’t me who touch you, it was God.
Elisha who direction in life was amazingly and radically transformed the moment the prophet mantle touch him.
It was the touch of God’s hand that so transformed this farmer.
This morning it is God not I who is dealing with your life.
People always many times come to the preacher and want to question them about something they said that hit their hearts.
To which the preacher replies “don’t talk to me about it, take it up with God”.
People thinks the preacher is picking on them, when in reality God has their number.
God alone can transform you life.
It’s not the preacher’s touch, although God will use the preacher as an instrument and channel through which He may flow.
But the bottom line this morning is, God is calling you into His presence to receive a life transformation.
