b. Have you ever had the Darkness overcome God’s Promise in Your Life?
III. Review 1 Sam 1-12
a. Israelites are in the Promised Land
b. Yet the Promise has been overwhelmed by Darkness
c. Samuel
i. Samuel is a Transitionary Figure
1. Prophet
2. Judge
ii. Samuel born Miraculously to a barren women, named Hannah
iii. Samuel means NAME OF GOD
iv. Samuel is Dedicated to the Lord and Given over to Eli the Priest
v. Samuel is a Man who hears from God
1 Samuel 3:1 (ESV) — 1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lordin the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lordwas rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.
d. Even with Samuel as the Leader the Promise is overwhelmed by Darkness
e. What is the way out of the Darkness?

IV. Read I Sam. 8.1-9, 19-22

b. Samuel – God will Lead us out of the Darkness -

ii. Maybe that is the darkness the is overwhelming God’s Promise

V. Government (I Sam. 8. 10-18)
a. Usually Takes a form of a Person
1 Samuel 8:20 (ESV) — 20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
b. TAKE
i. Take your sons…Take your daughters…
ii. Take your fields....Take your grains and vineyards… Take your servants
iii. Take your flocks
iv. Lord will not answer…
c. Does your life indicate that the Government will help the darkness leave you?

e. WARNING – Ultimately the world will be led FURTHER into the Darkness by the ANTICHRIST – A popular Leader
Matthew 24:24 (ESV) — 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
VI. Gain (I Sam 8: 3)
a. Darkness – Food, Money, Popularity, etc…
Mark 8:36 (ESV) — 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

VII. God (I Sam 8: 1-2; 6-7)
a. Samuel is God Focused
i. His Sons: Joel – the Lord is God | Abijah – my father is Yahweh
ii. His Relationship with God
iii. Are you?
iv. JUST reading the bible does not mean you are a God Focused person!!!

VIII. NEXT STEPS
