Jesus Died
Jesus Died
Jesus was convicted of being God
taken before Pilate to be crucified
he was then nailed to the cross
where he voluntarily gave up His life
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with sickness, and like one from whom others hide their faces, he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard.
However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses, and he carried our pain, yet we ourselves assumed him stricken, struck down by God and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his wounds we were healed.
All of us have wandered about like sheep; we each have turned to his own way; and Yahweh let fall on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was brought like a lamb to the slaughter, and like a sheep is dumb before its shearers, so he did not open his mouth.
He was taken by restraint of justice, and who concerned himself with his generation? For he was cut off from the land of the living; he received a blow because of the transgression of my people.
He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
he was then laid in a tomb
covered in spices and wrapped in cloth
after death Jesus went to Hades/ Paradise and retrieved the old testament saints
now it’s the first day of the week

What Mary Saw
What Mary Saw
Mary comes to the tomb
Not just Mary, another Mary, Salome, Joanna
some of the women came separately
John just concentrates on Mary Magdalene
Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
Sunday morning before light
in APR in Jerusalem the sun rises at 6 ish
Saturday was the Sabbath they could not do anything
Jesus was raised sometime after 6 pm on Sat
Mary comes before 6 that Sunday Morning
finds the stone rolled away, did she assume that Jesus was taken?
did she go in and feel around and find Him missing?
it was still dark and even darker in the cave
why did not she see the angels? like the other women
But anyway
So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord from the tomb and we do not know where they have put him!”
she is very distraught
she tells John and Peter
body robbers have taken Him
Mary left the others
so she ran and told...
Peter And John
Peter And John
it is now coming onto day light
Then Peter and the other disciple went out and were going to the tomb.
They are going to investigate this crime
And the two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first. And bending over to look, he saw the strips of linen cloth lying there, though he did not go in.
John outran Peter getting to the tomb
John was now able to see inside because it was day
Saw
V 5 able to see observe
V 6 to understand (Sherlock Holmes)
V 8 Pay attention to/ to understand/
Then Peter followed
Then Simon Peter also came following him, and he went into the tomb and saw the strips of linen cloth lying there, and the facecloth that was on his head—not lying with the strips of linen cloth, but folded up separately in one place.
peter came and pushed past John and entered the tomb
what did he see?
the cloths lying as undisturbed- the body just vaporized
Jesus could not have woken up and took off the cloths
the cloths would be in a disarray
the spices would be everywhere
The Head piece was a turban wrapped around the head
some times it was rolled up and wrapped around the top of the head and under the chin
we get this idea from some of the translations that this was a face covering, that Jesus took off His face and folded up neatly, but a grave robber could have done that
in the KJV we see it a little different
And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
the wrap was in the right place as if the body instantly vanished
so Peter was Sherlock Holmes this scene
So then the other disciple who had come to the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.
He saw and believed
he also Sherlocked the scene and believed
there was only one way for this to happen and it was Jesus was resurrected like He said it would happen
maybe he understood what that day was. -
The Feast of First fruits
The Feast of First fruits
the feast of first Fruits is the 1st day after the Sabbath after the Feast of Passover
when the priest waves the sheaf of barley signifying that this came from the Lord and is giving it back
the barley harvest cannot be touched until the priest gives the sheaf o the Father
this feast signifies there is more to come
Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
a seed dies and new life comes from the 1 seed
They are celebrating the resurrection of the seed
they are celebrating the upcoming harvest that has been given to them by God
Jesus is our first fruit
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.’ ”
at this time the Priest is at the temple waving the sheaf of First Fruit
Jesus tells Mary not to touch Him, but sends her away
Jesus goes to the Father to present Himself as the First Fruit
Mary could not touch Him yet because he has not presented himself
then he returned and met others
And behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
they were then, able to touch Him
Getting Back To The Tomb
Getting Back To The Tomb
So then the other disciple who had come to the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.
What happened to Jesus?
he rose with a incorruptible body
Thus also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruptibility. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Jesus was in extreme pain when he died
but rose not ever feeling pain again
died with a body that gets tired, hungry, sick, failing, with the sin of the world on His shoulders
rose with a new spiritual body
because Jesus was our first fruit we will be like Him when we are raised
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.
we will have perfect bodies, given to us by God
no more pain, sickness,
cancer will be word without meaning
going to sleep would be a useless act
eating will be for fun
Hospitals will be museums
news story about a boy losing his prostheses in the lake
all prostheses will go there
John did not know all this at that time but...
He Believed
He Believed
he saw enough evidence to convince him of the fact that Jesus rose again
that the only way to Jesus-- is to believe
that He took your sin
He took your punishment , The wrath of the Father
The only way to the Father is through Jesus
John saw the evidence and the evidence caused him to believe
lets look at the next verse
(For they did not yet know the scripture that it was necessary for him to rise from the dead.)
John didn't know all there was
there was a lot he was ignorant on
but there was enough to put his faith in
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household!”
For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not judged, but the one who does not believe has already been judged, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
