Introduction

Having a child is considered a blessing during Biblical time, and without a child, you are considering a curse. One of the things is women were most likely blame during those times for not having children. So, the heir or the blessing when it comes to a household rested on the wife. Under the patriarchs, a father’s property was divided among the sons of his legitimate wives; the eldest son got a larger portion than the rest. The Mosaic law made specific regulations regarding the transmission of real property, which are given in detail in Deut. 21:17; Num. 27:8; 36:6; 27:9–11. Succession to property was a matter of right and not of favor. Christ is the “heir of all things” (Heb. 1:2; Col. 1:15). Believers are heirs of the “promise,” “of righteousness,” “of the kingdom,” “of the world,” “of God,” “joint heirs” with Christ
(FCF) Since we are joint hears with Christ, we must believe in the inheritance that we will receive.

Teaching

Main Point 1 : When God is your shield, your reward is great.
Abram had no descendant of his own. He was faithful in following God’s direction to leave his home, but he had nothing to prove that his faithfulness would be blessed. You can imagine the people talking about it, well he listens to God, he follows God, but he was still childless.
Abram and his wife Sari already discuss a conclusion to the problem; they have agreed that since he had no children, his male servant will be his heir. That servant must feel special walking around thinking he would inherit all that his master has one day. At the same time, Abram may have treated him like his own flesh and blood.
But remind Abram his reward will be great, not because Abram is faithful, not because Abram was obedient, but because Abram had God has His shield. When God is your shield, your reward is more significant than this world can imagine, but you must believe in it.
Look at what Abram believes God gave him some impossible word like the stars, oh my. I don’t know even one heir with my wife, but I am looking at an innumerable amount but you what I am going to trust God. Abram believes for it to happen, and it did.
Later we will see where Sari decides to take God’s reward into her hand and start the process for God by giving Abram, her maidservant, a believes surrogate.
But God doesn’t need us to begin the process of Him.
God doesn’t need us to do the work for Him. All He desires is that we believe in His promises. Believe in his Words, and believe in his power. He wants us to believe for it to be released in our life. Hebrew 11:6 tells us, and it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” You must believe that God will reward you. You must have even a small faith that God can do great things in your life when you seek him. Small faith can lead to great reward, but you must believe for it to be fulfilled.
Illustration David’s first son was born to Bathsheba, the woman with whom he committed the sinful act, leading to this child being born in sin. But David trust that God, in His infinite mercy, will heal the child. So, he fasts and prays every day, fasting and praying for healing, checking the child for a sign for changes. One day it looked like he was about to get better, so he continued praying and trusting the servant were so worried. They talk about how weak their master is around the table that one child gets him to be like this. He is so soft that he is lost in his way of fasting and praying. But they noticed the glimmer of hope in his eyes that day. He was ready for some change, but then another servant ran to the kitchen. The child is dead. They all look at each other who will tell him this; my goodness, we just thought things were about to turn around for the best. Some brave servant at the table spoke up and said; I will go; it must be done anyway. Just get ready; things are about to get worst. What a shock they had the change the transformation of David once he heard the child is dead. He gets up, stops fasting but still praying.
You see, my brothers and sister, faith like David requires that you trust that even when you sin, God will show up and help give you a miracle. Faith like David requires you to trust that God will answer your prayer regardless of what you do. Faith like David is that even when God doesn’t answer the prayer, you believe Him for it because He knows that is best for you. Faith like David requires you to see the power of God and believe Him for it.

Application

How do we know that we can trust God to reward us when we believe in Him?
1. first, you remember that God is always faithful. He doesn’t change because of our behavior because it is His character
God’s faithfulness is an integral part of his nature Number 23: 19 tell us
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
Faithfulness is God, so if he promised to reward those faithful to Him, he would do so.
2. Faith pleases God. When you believe God for his promises, you please Him. God is not satisfied with those without faith; even a tiny amount of faith can receive great pleasure from God. Abram believes in God, and he was counted as righteous. Your faith in God is what allow you to gain big blessing from Him. So, pray for God to increase your faith so your approval will be increased.
3. Wait for God. God promises Abram countless descendants; even today, Abraham is still getting new descendants in His name. Wait for God. Don’t try to act for God; when you believe God for His promises, you allow him to bring them forth in your life.
