Christian Meditation
Christian Meditation
In contemporary society our adversary majors in three things; noise, hurry and crowds. If we hope to move beyond the superficialities of our culture, including our religious culture, we must be willing to go down into the recreating silences, into the inner world of contemplation." (Richard Foster -Celebration of Discipline -page 15)
Jos 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.
Jos 1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
What was the purpose of the Lord's instruction to Joshua to meditate on His Word?

Psa 1:2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 3:1-29; II Tim. 3:16.]

Mat 14:13 When Jesus heard it, He withdrew from there privately in a boat to a solitary place. But when the crowds heard of it, they followed Him [by land] on foot from the towns.
These were people who were close to the heart of God. God spoke to them not because they had special abilities, but because they were willing to listen
Christian meditation is simply the ability to hear God's voice and obey it.
Christian meditation is not merely detachment, but detachment followed by attachment.
Types of Meditation are;
1. Meditation on scripture
2. Centering Down (surrender followed by invocation)
3. Meditation on creation
4. Meditation on world events
Meditation is not a single act but rather a way of life to bring enrichment, substance and strength through our relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ.
