Lord of the Whole of Life!
Those who acclaim Christ as Lord need to acknowledge his lordship over their bodies by not giving reign to sexual immorality (1 Cor 6:12–20; 1 Thess 4:3–8). Having Christ as Lord is no idle matter, for those who eat in the temple of an idol cannot also drink “the cup of the Lord” (1 Cor 10:21). By doing so one provokes the Lord to jealousy and becomes prey to his fierce judgment (1 Cor 10:22).
Believers manifest their devotion to the Lord in a multitude of ways:
I. By giving thanks in all things (Eph 5:20),
II. By doing all in the Lord’s name (Col 3:17),
III. By living in harmony (Phil 4:2),
IV. By resisting the wiles of the devil (Eph 6:11),
V. By keeping apostolic instructions (1 Thess 4:2),
VI. By respecting their leaders (1 Thess 5:12),
VII. By supporting themselves financially instead of being lazy (2 Thess 3:12),
VIII. By turning away from false teaching (1 Tim 6:3)
IX. By not being ashamed of the message of the gospel (2 Tim 1:8).
X. Wives are to submit to their husbands “in the Lord” (Eph 5:22; Col 3:18),
XI. children are to obey their parents “in the Lord” (Eph 6:1; Col 3:20).
XII. Similarly, slaves are to obey their masters with the motivation of pleasing the Lord Christ instead of their earthly masters (Eph 6:5–8; Col 3:22–25).
XIII. Conversely, masters must beware of abusing and mistreating their slaves, for they too have a Lord in heaven who will pass judgment on them (Eph 6:9; Col 4:1).
Conclusion
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
(Philippians 2:6-11)
