Proverbs 27:1 “Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

There are many good examples of this in the scriptures. As God’s children we sometimes equate these words of boasting with the ungodly such as Haman is Esther, but we can also see the principal well in the life of Jonathan, Saul’s son. 1 Sam.23:17.

Jonathan was a close friend of David. He knew that his father was wrong in his jealousy of David. He also knew that Samuel had already anointed David as the next king of Israel. Jonathan’s boasting was assuming that he would be present and at the side of David when he took the throne.

As Christians we must be careful that we don’t put off that which God has for us to do now. There may not be a tomorrow for us!

James 4:13-17 again is a warning to us on this principal.

I.                   Realize that our lives are short in span.

II.                Realize that it is not us that wills or decides, but the Lord.

III.             Realize that there is much good to do now, and if we shirk that responsibility, we are guilty of sin.
