Pastoral Prayer

Oh God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I start my prayer this morning with the words that I often end my prayer with: for thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory. Lord God we confess that we are in your kingdom. That you are our sovereign, and as such we yield our lives to you. We yield our kingdom, to yours being made on earth as it is in heaven. We yield our desires and ask that you would create in a new hearts and new desires. We yield our church to you Lord God, that we might be your people and you, our God.
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
Your son taught us to pray and to never lose heart. But frankly God there are times that wear us down and we feel fainthearted. We feel weary and close to giving up. There are times Lord we lose hope and give up.
In these times help us to hold each other up in prayer. to encourage each other. to be there for one another
And to find your grace that is always offered to us freely
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
Raise up for us, O God, leaders worthy of the name,
people who like Christ
are unafraid of challenge,
unashamed of serving,
and unattached to their own personal gain;
men and women who like Christ
call to the best within us,
and then lead the way.
And, in our own small spheres, God,
may we be the leaders we seek.
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
We gather together in the midst of human losses and grief.
We encounter you, God, broken and scattered,
both without and within,
inside the margins and outside of them too,
God in death and loss
but also God of new life
and joys beyond death and loss. Heal our loss we pray
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
We pray for your kingdom of peace in this world
We pray for you to show us
how to be advocates for your peace and hope.
Help us to know that what we do makes a difference.
We pray for the peace you bring within families.
We pray for the peace you bring within ourselves.
We pray for your peace to come for those who are ill,
those who are grieving,
Those who are struggling,
and those who are suffering,
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
Many people around us and in this world experience hurt,
grief, brokenness, and sorrow.
Loving God, help us to recognize when we are part
of what brings pain, grief, and brokenness to others.
Help us to act in healthy and loving ways
with our friends and neighbors, with strangers and enemies.
Help us to love others as ourselves.
Help us to love ourselves as you love us.
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
Lord, we wrestle with our hopes and our fears, our struggles and our joys
laboring with creation to come to new hope.
In silence now, let us make our own specific prayers
for those on our hearts and minds today.
(10 seconds of silence)
Lord in your mercy; Hear Our Prayer
In the presence of God,
alongside Jesus Christ,
with help from the Spirit
may we live out our prayers through our lives.
Most particularly the prayer that you have taught us saying:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen.

Our memory of your revelation is maintained and reverenced in the Scriptures that we hold in our hands. Look with delight upon us today as we renew our commitment to read and remember You in the stories of our salvation. Help us to absorb its wisdom and live its inspired truth.
Encourage us with the help of the Holy Spirit to use these sacred writings for our prayer and inspiration, for the increase of our own faith and devotion, and for the building up of your Kingdom. Through your Word may we be transformed into the very likeness of Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you forever and ever. Amen.
