According to Will and Ariel Durant, in their Lessons of History, there have already been approximately 268 scattered years without war over the past 3,421 years.
According to Will and Ariel Durant, in their Lessons of History, there have already been approximately 268 scattered years without war over the past 3,421 years.
It seems that due to mankind's entitlement, arrogance, and pride, man will almost always seek to subjugate others for their own benefit.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
TS: THIS WEEK AS WE STUDY THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT WE ARE LOOKING AT PEACE...
WHAT IS PEACE?
1. freedom from disturbance; tranquility.
2. a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.
BIBLICAL PEACE IS DEFINED...
Biblical peace is more than just the absence of conflict; it is taking action to restore a broken situation. It's more than a state of inner tranquility; it's a state of wholeness and completeness. Biblical peace is not something we can create on our own; it is a fruit of the Spirit.
Point #1: Biblical Peace Requires Peace with God!
Point #1: Biblical Peace Requires Peace with God!
18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,
5 Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.
6 He will repay each one according to his works:
7 eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality;
8 but wrath and anger to those who are self-seeking and disobey the truth while obeying unrighteousness.
36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who rejects the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation.
Point #2: Biblical Peace Requires Resistance of Evil Forces.
Point #2: Biblical Peace Requires Resistance of Evil Forces.
8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
9 Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
7 Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.
13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,
15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
16 In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.
18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Point # 3: Biblical Peace Requires Peace of Mind!
Point # 3: Biblical Peace Requires Peace of Mind!
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things.
9 Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again you renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it.
5 For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.
6 Now the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the Spirit is life and peace.
7 The mindset of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so.
8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.
10 Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you.
