CHIASM
The word is from Greek, designating a cross-type
arrangement or X-shaped. It is a literary device used
often in Hebrew poetry in which ideas or words are
stated in a particular order. Then, they’re repeated in
inverted order, making 1 & 4 to correspond and 2 & 3 to
correspond, etc.

CHRISTOLOGICAL INSIGHTS FROM JOHN 1
Jesus is fully God (1:1-2).
Jesus is dis nct from the Father (1:1-2, 12, 14, 18).
Jesus has life in Himself (cf. YHWH; 1:4; see also Jn 5:21, 26 - Granted the Son to have life in
Himself. “I am…the life” - Jn 11:25; 14:6).
Jesus took on genuine, unfallen humanity (1:14).
Jesus reveaels the Father (1:14, 18).
Jesus is the eternal, only bego en (unique, one and only) Son of God (1:18).
