I. Jesus is Glorified by Affliction vs. 27-28a
I. Jesus is Glorified by Affliction vs. 27-28a
A. Jesus is talking about the crucifixion. Jesus would be glorified in the ultimate sacrifice. Heb. 10:8-10 “After saying above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
B. Jesus is glorified in our sufferings as well “What you’ve walked through God never intends to waste”- Dale Johnson
II Cor 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,”
II. Jesus is Glorified by Belief vs. 28b-43
II. Jesus is Glorified by Belief vs. 28b-43
A. When the Father speaks you have those, who heard thunder. They were the hard hearted ones Isaiah spoke about, but they are not completely without hope. (Saul/Paul ex)
B. Those who heard an angel were on the fence and couldn’t make up their minds. (Nicodemus ex) (3:1ff) John 19:38-39 “After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight.”
C. The ones who heard the voice and recognized it as Yahweh were the ones who believed.
D. God is glorified when we pray and witness to those stuck in unbelief.
