Mark 1:29-30
Mark 1:29-30
You mean to tell me the first “Pope” was married?
Well, why could the first “Pope” have a wife and a mother-in-law, and there has never been another one like that since?
Whoever these birds are running around for over 1,500 years calling themselves “Holy Father,” they sure weren’t the successors of Simon Peter!
Here are the REASONS Peter was never a Pope.
I. Peter was Married.
I. Peter was Married.
And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
II. Peter never usurped God the Father’s title.
II. Peter never usurped God the Father’s title.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
III. Peter wouldn’t let anyone bow down to him and kiss his ring.
III. Peter wouldn’t let anyone bow down to him and kiss his ring.
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
IV. Peter would never even think of speaking “ex cathedra” to define doctrine.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
V. Peter taught every Christian was a priest.
V. Peter taught every Christian was a priest.
1 Pet. 2:5, 9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
VI. Peter said Jesus (not himself) was the Rock on which the Church was built.
VI. Peter said Jesus (not himself) was the Rock on which the Church was built.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
VII. Peter held the Scriptures as the final authority (1 Pet. 1:23–25; 2 Pet. 1:19), not any “infallible teaching church.”

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Conclusion:
So the Popes use this as one of the reasons for the supremacy of Peter above the other apostles. That ignores several facts:
He was the only one of the apostles to be called Satan. Matt. 16:23
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
He was not in charge of the assembly of the apostles and elders at Jerusalem in Acts 15
And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
Peter himself said he was only an elder among other elders (1 Pet. 5:1) and that Jesus Christ was “the chief Shepherd” (1 Pet. 5:4).
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Paul, not Peter, was given as the apostle you are to follow (1 Cor. 11:1), and
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
where Peter contradicted Paul, Peter was rebuked for it (Gal. 2:11).
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
