John 4:23–24 ESV
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
True worshippers
Not just believers
even the demons believe
Followers; those having a relationship with the Father
God our God a Spirit
to worship such a spirit there are two components (imperative) (infinitive)
Spirit
Truth
God is looking for such worshippers.

To be a true worshipper we must worship in both Spirit and Truth

Rooted in the Word Beyond Tradition

John 8:55–56 ESV
But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.”
John 8:58 ESV
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
Multitudes are so in love with tradition
Jesus Reveals Himself and they Deny it
The I am-
reveals to them He was long before Abraham
reveals He is the one who spoke out of the bush… Who shall I say sent me… the I am
Not your tradition… the one you long to worship

Rooted in the Word Over the Self

Stern warning about the last days
Study of philosophy quickly come to terms for the cause of Philosophy… Theology wrote a check so large it could not cash Philosophy has attempted to resolve those gaps… often found taking the approach to answer from the self over the truth found in scripture...
The love for self will supersede the love for God… Paul says it this way;
2 Timothy 3:1–5 ESV
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Such a posture we know to live in the world
The issue is when it is being bred in the church
Paul gives the address in list form then pauses… Avoid such people
They have denied the Truth and have chosen self over God
1 Tim 4:1-2 “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,”
The lie of satan has always been the self above God
Romans 1:22–25 ESV
Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
They know the Truth but they suppress it
They know God but do not honor Him
They believed themselves to not need God…They placed the self above God and were given up to the self (dishonored themselves)

Worship in Spirit and Truth

Weapon of Truth

Ephesians 6:17 ESV
and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
Eph 6 tells us about the whole armor of God… only one piece of armor for offense… the sword of the Spirit… the word of God
In Heb 4:12 we are made aware just how powerful the word of God is...
Isaiah 49:2 ESV
He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow; in his quiver he hid me away.
Isaiah declares something that rings true for each of us… from our mother’s the mouth we were given is intended to speak with the sword
and yet we are tucked away for the right time
Our entire being will as the polished arrow
and yet we are hidden until we are aligned with His purpose and are released as His servants (Moses)

Fullness of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:18 ESV
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
The Spiritual Interconnected with Truth…Inseparable
Rom 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Helps in our weakness
Deep groanings
words we cannot utter
Romans 8:14–15 ESV
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:16 ESV
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Truth is we are children of the Living God… Heirs to the throne...
We have been adopted by the Father… and our Spirit cries out to the creator;
every culture term of endearment… english-Daddy… spanish-Pappi…latin-Tati
Not just the head of the house but in the aramaic Abba! Father
We know the Word of God will not be tolerated by many… the challenge for each of us is to be so firmly rooted in His word…
Our expression of Worship is one that builds us up in Truth… is given in the Spirit
Unifies us as one children of the living God… we can come to the Father creator of Heaven and earth and call out to Him my Father…
