A Psalm of David. 1 To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. 3 Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. 7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. 8 Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. 9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. 11 For Your name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great. 12 Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. 13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. 15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord, For He shall pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses! 18 Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins. 19 Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred. 20 Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, Out of all their troubles!

10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Today’s Text
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
(meek) 4239 πραΰς [praus /prah·ooce/] adj. Apparently a primary word; TDNT 6:645; TDNTA 929; GK 4558; Three occurrences; AV translates as “meek” three times. 1 mildness of disposition, gentleness of spirit, meekness. Additional Information: Meekness toward God is that disposition of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. In the OT, the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than their own strength to defend them against injustice. Thus, meekness toward evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries they inflict, that He is using them to purify His elect, and that He will deliver His elect in His time. (Is. 41:17, Lu. 18:1–8) Gentleness or meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in God’s goodness and control over the situation. The gentle person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, not of the human will. (Gal. 5:23).

“blessed are the Meek”
What does it mean to be “Meek” ?
What does it mean to be “Meek” ?
1) The foundation of all that is Meek is that God is Good.
1) The foundation of all that is Meek is that God is Good.
2) God uses all things to bring us into Holiness.
2) God uses all things to bring us into Holiness.
3) God deals justly with people and situation in His time.
3) God deals justly with people and situation in His time.
1) God is good means “God is Perfect.”
1) God is good means “God is Perfect.”
At it’s foundation meekness is the understanding that God is perfect.
Because He is perfectly good I am not going to bring God to my point of view, I have to move to His.
becoming “Godly” is not merely about information, its about experience. the experience of letting my self, my opinions. My will, My wants. My ways, give way to just trusting God with no evidence of what is to come.
Maybe part of the reason we have such a hard time about the goodness of God is that it has become cliche.
God is Perfect.
God is Perfect.
1. God is perfect in grace.
1. God is perfect in grace.
8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. 9 The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.
we should all be glad that The Lord in His perfection is gracious. otherwise we’d all be in trouble.
We Live in a culture where it seems that all forms of discomfort are abuse and everyone is a victim. ( I think its important to point out I have never met a victim who has not left a trial of victims in there wake and until they truly surrender to God they seem to think that someone else is responsible for their victims. As if the rules are different for them.)
in my 28 years of ordained ministry and 33 years of preaching I have heard countless stories of people who where brought up by “control freaks” and the damage it left them. these freaks where unrighteous people.
can you imagine how much trouble we would be in if God where not gracious?
6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
God’s compassion for us comes out of His perfect love.
as a part of the greatness of God His love is so great that it is easy for us to take advantage of. We so easily about us.
17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
God is so good, we cannot fathom it.
God is so good, we cannot fathom it.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?” 36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
as much as we tend to think that we understand that God perfect (good) we don’t.
as we began to understand that the finite cannot understand the infinite, then real faith comes into play.
We began to trust God even when His ways go opposite to my own gut instincts.
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
much of the time we want to sit in judgement of God because His ideas don’t fit the “wisdom of Day”.
The wisdom of the day is ever changing, God the father is unchanging. He is consistent He is Good.
His ways are right.
the word of God is true.
6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
