Dead to Sin | Romans 6:1-14
Romans chapter 6 and turn their, I think I'm in New King James this morning or whatever, they put up.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that Grace May abound. Certainly not. How shall we? Who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ? Jesus were baptized into his death. Therefore we were buried with him, through baptism into death that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father. Even so we also should walk in newness of life. If we have been United together in the likeness of his death. Certainly. We also shall be in the likeness of his resurrection knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him that the body of sin might be done away with that. We should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. If we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him knowing that Christ. Haven't been raised from the dead dies. No, More Death. No longer has dominion over him for the death, that he died. He died to send once for all but the life that he lives. He lives to God. Likewise. You also reckon or consider yourself to be dead, indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus, our lord. Therefore do not let sin rain in your mortal body that you should obey its lust. And do not present your members, as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourself to God, as being alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness to God for sin. Shall not have dominion over you for your not under the law, but under grace and I'll stop there. We're coming from, keep in mind. We're coming from Romans five. And last week. We talked about benefits because you all remember the title and all the points. I'm sure we talked about the benefits that we have, because of being saved by grace, through faith being justified and these benefits include Grace and it is a privilege. It is an honor to be under the grace of God.
I'm sure enough as with any blessing or benefit people in their human. Minds are going to twist that and use it somehow for their own. Schemes.
Show people, Tris Twisted, Grace back in the Apostle, Paul's day. The early church like they do today. So it continues. I think it will see all all this will continue side-by-side, you know, like the wheat and the tears that kind of thing because even the church being divided, it's not going to be cat. Nothing's going to be completely solved until Jesus comes, but if we allow the spirit to help us in our thinking, we can have a radical change of perception. So Paul's dealing with this Twisted Grace message and he asked his question almost sarcastically. Well, if it's God's grace increases, when we send, let's send some more we can send. Cuz God's grace is going to increase. Now that may sound ridiculous to you is your holy but be careful. You may very well in the depths of your heart. Be living that out in your inner, man.
And this was a concept that was polluting the body body of Christ back then. And like I said, they they felt this way since ancient times, which is crazy to me. It doesn't make sense to me because the Bible already deals with it. But it's like other things, ladies and gentlemen.
People ignore parts of the Bible. To make it to suit their needs.
That's what Satan does. That's his twisting. That's his game. Rather than taking in all the part, the whole counsel of God to allow it to change our own Hearts because we don't want to change. We want to hold on to things, right? We want to still hold. We still want to get away with something. That's our nature and I thought that was just a drug addicts. Nature know, that's all of our nature. I remember when I tried to get clean for a few times and I was an na, and I stopped drinking and I'm doing all the other stuff, but I still would like sneak something to, you know, that was legal and I thought I was getting away with it. It's self sabotage and that's not just drug addicts. That's all of us. We want to get away with something. It's an r and I'll explain why that is.
So today's message is all about how Jesus changes our hearts, and we're the ones who were rejected except that. You can twist grips for sure, and you can turn Grace into this dangerous thing. It become dangerous because it allows you to keep doing what you want, doing what you don't want to do. That's against God. And To the extreme of this. We can see this in history. There was a man named Rasputin. You ever heard of this guy? He lived a very way that Paul was rebuking. He was alive from 1869 to 1917. He was a confidante to the empress Alexandra of Russia and Nicholas II in The Last Emperor of Russia. Now, this guy claims himself to be a holy man, and you can Wikipedia Mitzi doll story.
He got converted at Saint. Nicholas cathedral in 1897 and he became the super. Holy religious fanatic. He became a vegetarian. And I guess that makes you. Holy. I don't know. He swore off alcohol. Good good good. He prayed and sang much more fervently than he had in the past. And then he started developing this following. And he formed a little circle, a little Secret Circle of prayer, meetings. But then things got weird. He interpreted Grace and he live this way as increasing in our lives by Us. Increasing sin, in our lives. And he equated that to Grace being this free ticket to do whatever you wanted. So he lived his extravagant lifestyle that you did some crazy things. He was a sick man.
Do you let others into send because of this. It's it's said that he had female followers. Who would they would like, wash him before? His secret prayer meeting you can imagine what would happen there? They stung strange songs. And eventually he joined a religious sect who had these crazy rituals that included self-mutilation, and like, putting yourself about across and cutting yourself. Nothing obviously demonic obviously sick, but look at started with this message of great or Grace covers us, so we can do whatever we want for free. And polish shouting to this crazy Twisted view of Grace because he knew that his hearers might take this is out. Well, you know sitting Kris is Grayson. Am I taking that way? I'm going to come against them and Paul saying, God forbid, you send more, so Grace can increase. That's not what this book is about. and even today, this extreme form of Once saved, always saved, I'll say it like that. And I know that may have been someone, but that's fine. It's taken by many to mean. Hey, we get saved. And we don't have to change the oil change needed.
No death to self, no death to sin. God's grace covers, all regardless of what you do and what you're going to do tomorrow.
And that gives the message that were free to approve of sin. And let it control us. It's happening right now. Here. We are in 2021 because I said, this may even increase within the church. Actually, I think it's going to it and it's it, it hurts my heart. there are people like Nadia bolz-weber and she is from the ELCA.
She's a leader in that organization. She her books. I've only read Snippets of them. She's encouraging young people, to explore their bodies sexually and give into sexual sin books. This is the leader in what should be the body of Christ. And I'm I am comfortable correcting this publicly. That's fine. Because it's the truth. What is coming from that same life, sensuous mentality, that Paul is rebuking and from that, crazy Russian dude, in the 1800. Nadia and God touch your heart, please, she's leading people astray. This is still happening.
Last days, false teachers. Who, who will relieve itching? Ears for a message of anything? Goes, because God's grace covers all
God will judge that teaching in the end. God will judge that teaching in the end and he's going to do that strongly. Don't mess around with that stuff at all. Paul was strong against it and folks, we should be too. Unless you want to start ripping out pages of your Bible and black star, pink stuff. That's your choice. But you going to deal with you on that. In Christ, we consider ourselves dead to sin. What does that mean? Dead to the power of sin? We die. And we raised again in the power of Christ because that's how powerful Jesus is. And I'm going to expound on this. So we can say, is Paul says in verse 2, how shall we who died to sin still live in it?
And later on and verse 11, consider ourselves dead to sin. Not go out and spend all over the place for Grace to increase.
What? Wait a minute? Don't we all send?
We all fall short. You bet we do.
So, how can we be dead to something? We're inevitably going to do because you are going to send.
Well.
We're not reading this in the original Greek language. you know, things get
I don't want you to get lost because the word is still the word, but We have a little more of an understanding with the words that were actually being used in the Greek.
If we saw the verb tenses and the Greek word being used for sin. We would understand. Paul is what he's really saying. Paul is saying you should not be continuing on in habitual sin, which is using in verse 6. And then the verse 15. He said you should also not knowingly be dabbling in sin.
With the thought that okay.
He's getting to the heart of the issue which even if you don't know the grief, you should still be able to figure that out. If you're reading the whole Bible. We will miss the Mark. We're all going to send. It's going to happen. The Bible says, if you think that you have no sin, you're a liar. We see them scripture 1st. John 1:8. If we say, we have no sin, we deceive ourselves. As truth is not in us. If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
That's what Kevin was talking about in the meetings. And then if you look it up first and cleansing from all unrighteousness, that that's that has the the idea that you're going to be cleansed from that thing and not continue on in it change. I will say that we've not spend, we make him a liar and his word is not in it. So the workforce in there is talking about missing the mark and you missed the Mark. I miss I probably missed the mark this morning somehow. I didn't tell you how beautiful you looked. I miss the Mark. I didn't fully give my attention to my wife or my kids. You're going to miss the everyday, you're missing. The mark one selfish moment, one ounce of Pride rising up in you one. Morsel of Gossip entertained. Even for a second.
But to go on as a Believer who has died to the power of sin to go on into habitual sin or forcefully, you know that this is wrong and you're just going to double occasionally, even though, you know, that it's simple because you're Justified like this long to do this once in awhile. I'm going to do this thing once in awhile, God's grace. I'm good. Super powers. Talking about
this is something you no longer have to be enslaved to because Christ in Christ, you died to it. And the new life that you have now. The new life and we'll get into this too. It's really exciting. The new life that you have now has to continually die, to the thing. Your old life used to live for.
That we're talking against the Grace Super Bass message. Then you have this other legalism. Paul is dealing with so much and it's the same thing that you're saying. There's just other direction that says, it's not about Grace. It's about legalism. And we have to clear this up to because it gets distorted. So I'll tell you what death is sin. Isn't in order for you to know what that Justin is death to send does not mean that you no longer desire to send. Maybe somebody taught you that once I've I've been taught that before in my early Christian walk. You're just going to lose the desire to send totally. And you're going to be.
Or the preacher like this. A dead man. Can't send cuz your dad. Well, let me tell you that's not accurate at all. You will desire to send.
Wouldn't it be great if you didn't desire to send? We
Temptations are real. Jesus was tempted.
When Temptation will continue. Look how much the writers of the Bible spend on resisting temptation, right?
1st Corinthians, 10:13. No temptation has seized you, except that, which is common to man, got spanked over right away out James, 4:7 resist, the devil and flee from you. If there's nothing to resist. What's the point we're talking about believers.
Temptations are also being dead to sin doesn't mean that you're you're just dead so that they'll pull to send and we have to be transparent. Folks. There is nothing wrong with you. Actually. Yeah, I I I am attracted to sin. I'm not talking about doing it.
Why we why we see why do we hide that stuff so much? If you're more open, you're going to give that the enemy's going to realize, like I said, how open you are. I'm being open with you guys sometime. I was I was at Fareway. I think it was yesterday. All goodness, Lord, help me. Fairway on the quick checkout. Aisle has a trick or treat bag for adults.
You know what that is. It's a bag. Full of a little shot bottles right to take shots with this is the trick-or-treat. I laughed. I was going to pick it up and pretend to buy a put on my clothes. I'm going to see me like trick or treat bag for adults. What is this? First of all, you're an adult. Now. Stop trying to be a kid. Second of all, that's nothing. Trick-or-treating while alcohol. Nevermind. I just it's crazy. But there was that there's always the second for me. Listen. I was an alcoholic drug. Addict is always a second for me. I'm like, yeah. Not getting wasted member what that was like, you know, yeah, it's the temptation but I just don't I'm not going to do it. That's all because I know who I am in Christ, and that's more important to me. But the desire doesn't necessarily go away. Sometimes it does completely. I know people have experienced that but they'll be something else you'll be tempted to do. Send.
when you become a Christian, What he saying, mean, Duchess in it mean you're no longer under the ruling power of sin? That's how you are dead to it. It means it's no longer your master. So Excel use that example of alcohol used to be my master even before drugs. I have to wake up and drink a certain amount of vodka. It was my master. I was enslaved to it. This is talking about. You're no longer enslaved to that anymore.
but,
Remember Paul said, in 521 sin, rain past 10 that Grace might rain.
It may not be your master folks, but since the last power in your life.
The point is because of Christ, it can no longer Force itself on you. It can't dictate to you what you do. Remember Romans, 1:18 through 32. We're talking about people who are without Christ. And without Christ you're given over to the wrath of God to your own sinful desires. You remember what that was? Like, remember when you had to send everyday that means they were completely under the control of the Mastery of sin without Christ. But now in Union, when you become United with Christ, there's power in your life that can resist, the sin that dominated your old self.
That's what the Bible means in Colossians 1:13 when it says for he rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us now to the kingdom of his beloved Son, or when Paul says in Acts 26:18 to open their eyes, so they may turn from Darkness to light from the Dominion. Satan to God, so that's saying you were dominated by something else you were in another dominion and you were enslaved to it.
I'll give a no stration, a picture and I wish I had a cool video, but I didn't, I didn't do it. Afghanistan. Still under Taliban control, right? Yes. Last I checked the news today and we go over and invade Afghanistan, which is now under I call it Wicked Taliban control. We go in there and we throw out their evil forces, the power, and we give the government and the communication back to the people. And it may be a democracy with a decent government.
But the Old Tower. The old Taliban forces, you know, what's going to happen. They're going to scatter. We would take over. But they would go hide out in the bushes. And they would form a guerrilla force that would just begin to start causing trouble for the new government. The Taliban would always still try to impose its will on parts of the country. And even though it would really never get full power back. It would still take back some power, it would cause a lot of damage. Until it's completely eradicated. Of course. So being that the same folks doesn't mean that sin is no longer with you or even that it has no more influence over you. It's there. Lurking all the time like a hidden Guerrilla force in the bushes. But it's never going to gain full control back in your life. Unless you allow it to because your life government has been taken over by Jesus Christ now.
Christian's though. In religion were afraid of saying oh yeah sin is still lurking because I know they going to legalistic we're denying the fact they really that there's a struggle between them in this world. Of course, there's a struggle between you and in this world because you don't belong here.
Sims still has influence look around, but for believers in Christ.
Because you are a believer in Christ. If you are truly United with Christ, it cannot run your life and dictate to you its policy. That means it can no longer authoritatively control up like a master to this to a slave they'll be times where you you slip up and you mess up and Obey it.
But the reality in fact, as you no longer have to obey it, you chose to so people without Christ, and they have to obey Sim. They have to have no choice and it's funny how angry Christians get in our world today or we get it non-believers. Slave to sin. What do you expect?
Why are we getting so upset?
And then the bigger question is, where were you just the same at some point in their lives? People without Christ at the spiritual off. They have to obey the lustful flesh. The thought it doesn't have to be something crazy, could be even a little thing. You're either a slave to Christ or slave to sin. Without Christ, your entire life is forced to do it. Even from a young age into adulthood. Even from the smallest selfish moment to the greatest crying. So, Paul goes on explaining this more and you related to baptism, which this is a prequel for you getting baptized and I'll get into this, the depths of this next week about what baptism, really means what he says, do you not know that as many of us were baptized into Christ? Jesus were baptized into his death. There for, we were buried with him, through baptism into death. Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father even. So we should also walk in newness of life. For we have been United together in the likeness of his death. Certainly, we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection knowing this that our old man was crucified. With him. That the body of sin might be done away with that. We should no longer be slaves of sin. I love that the water baptism.
It really means that we're showing that we are in Christ, reunited with him. And that word. Yes. It does. It means Emory. We're buried with him and then we come out and we Emerge being raised with him and then we go on continuing in that newness of life and that Union with Christ. But to understand what it means to die, to send even further. You've done first and what baptism really symbolizes. Why what? It means when Paul said Christ died to sin once and for all all understand what that means.
Where did Jesus came into the world? From a place of perfect? Perfection Holiness? No sin at all? You can't even imagine that right now. Because of how we live and where we live. He enters Humanity on Earth. And what happens? He's assaulted by every part of sins, power and present. For 33 years. He lived in the midst of all this destructive power and influence.
When he goes to the Cross, when he went to the Cross, he took all of our sin and he bore the weight of it. The wrath of God for us by 20 made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, doesn't mean that he send, he bore the weight of all that sin.
So, coming from an environment, where Holiness is normal or Perfection is normal Or Glory is normal to an environment where he writes in his normal. I've been taking all of that on in this endless body, all the weight of our sin and he battled and he says it is finished misses his own spirit.
And the horror of hell and death. In the power of sin was all dealt with right there. And Jesus went to the Grave, he knew he's going to the great knowing. I'm about to rise and victory. You have to go through that though. For you and me, you went through that. So as Believers were uniting with Christ in that death and Resurrection, people get baptized. Think about this this week, ponder it
We celebrate that reality.
That everything has been done for us. In regards to the power of sin in our lives. And we can say it is finished. Also. The nightmare of us being enslaved to have to send. No longer forced to obey it. That is over. So we die because our old self dies when we come to Christ. And what happens on a new man is resurrected a new man, and that's why the Bible says. If you're in Christ, you're a new creation. The old has gone. The new has come. 2nd Corinthians 5:17.
So remember Jesus rose, how did you know when he rose what happened? He's finished with all that the torment that had to go through. There's no, there's no more getting beat and whipped for you.
He was finished with that problem of sin that he had to be assaulted with and he was totally concentrated on the father now. And remember, he also has a glorified body now. No longer suffering with the strain of taking out all their sense of the Cross, because he was resurrected.
For us. When we get saved, we die also to being enslaved to sin, and now we are supposed to be concentrated on the father's business. That is Resurrection Life. And Paul goes on to this verse. It's also misunderstood and Christian them, but it shouldn't be. Our old man was crucified with him that the body of sin might be done away with, and we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Listen, your old self who you were before. Jesus Christ is dead. Everybody say Dad, Dad. I just want to make sure you're understanding. This is dead. Many people and it's not the pastor's fault. Don't blame them. Work too hard on pastures. They slip up with the words a little bit odd. Did you see what he said? I'm out of here.
Some people say many of preached. I hope I've never said it. Maybe I did and it's not, you know, it's just be careful. That old man, is that old man can creep up back on you and he's going to come and take over. You better. Watch out. Keep them dead.
This is actually biblical not true. What is dead is dead?
Your pre regenerate self, who you were before, Christ has been judged, condemned, sent him executed and buried forever. You have to understand that today. There is a new man. God says, if you're in Christ, This Is God. You are a new creation.
Your old man or woman your old human? Was patterned after Adam.
It's that part of us, that's in Grain with Rebellion against God and his commands. It's in all of you. Anytime you just obey your parents from a young age. There's a fruit. It's in there. And the wall, the system of the law in the Old Testament could not deal with this old, man. All it did was tell it standards, standards standards of God.
The wall and legalism. It tried to reform the old man, but that never worked did it. Like an institution trying to reform. A prisoner doesn't always work, does it? So the law tries to get us to turn over a new Leaf.
What this system of Grace? Now, here comes Grace. Says the old man's never going to be reformed. It's not going to happen. The old man has to be put to death.
And it dies with Jesus Christ.
The crucifying of your old self is something that God did in US. It is. None of us who took our old self and nailed it to the Cross. You can't do that. Jesus, did it for you?
That's why who you were has no claim on you. If you are really now in Christ, who you were has no claim on you. And who you are now, are you following me? Who you were before? Jesus Christ has no power over you now.
And that's why I can very boldly and easily show you this picture today.
Behind me. There's a Deadman.
That was my old self folks.
Just consider it a Deadman. I don't want to know what happened. I don't really remember, but I was dead.
The one you were before Christ is dead and you are dead to that person. You are not that person anymore. You are new. God gives a Believer a new man. That is not patterned after Adam their pattern after Jesus Christ. So because your pattern after Christ your you no longer have his instinct to rebelled against God, but now you have this instinct to please God. And the dead man cannot have authority over you anymore. So we have to remember that our old selves are dead. That's why I thought that was another. That was another. Nicholas. That wasn't me. I know it wasn't.
We don't technically battle the old man. That is the wrong thing. So just don't say it anymore. The Bible says we reckon we consider him dead. So here's what happens. Now, when you're in Christ. When evil thoughts come in your mind, right? When simple thoughts try to attack your mind, you like whoa. Whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa. Whoa, that doesn't belong there. And you're fighting it. Why are you fighting? Cuz you have a new nature. Now. It's a christ-like nature in you. That doesn't want that in their back before Christ in the old person. Yeah, I was still there. Because you were slave.
When evil comes in your mind, and it will come. Fooling ourselves with some kind of Holiness. Legalistic message that says your get your mind going to be. So pure that you never have a dark thought that is bologna.
Horse manure. I know, I don't I'm not even thinking about language. I'm just thinking of ridiculous things.
You think you're not going to struggle with your thought life at all? Is a Christian that you're going to reach some Nirvana of list where you don't send in your mind at all or even approach it. That's, that's, that's cool. That's not going to happen. That's a nice idea. You're going to struggle, you'll get us settled with thoughts. Like whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
You could, you could be a monk who is separated from the entire world with no evil influence technically from external. And there will be something to assault your mind because it's a spiritual war.
When evil comes in your mind. Now, it's a stranger evil. Thoughts are aliens to us now when they used to be natives. Do you remember when evil thoughts were native to your thought life, right? He that takes the man who? All day men, a man before Christ in an unregenerate state. They have to have lustful thoughts on it. They can't just look at a woman and not undress them because their own slave to it. but now in Christ, New nature will do. What will I don't like that. Doesn't belong in it.
Simple, lust are against our nature and we are dead to the reigning power. So used to treat them like they're dead. Okay. Well, then. Here's a question that's going to bring up. Thank you.
If your old man is dead. Why do all of us? Even though we're in Christ feel this? Pull to send? Remember you're lying. If you don't feel that pulled us in cuz I do we deal with this. That's not coming from your old, man.
Ladies and gentlemen, that's coming from your flesh and it's something different.
Some call the flesh, the screen on which your inner self is played out, that's pretty deep, right? Or inner self has desires and impulses, and passions. And those things are acted out in our mind and our will and our emotions. And the Flash is what acts out inside of ourselves. And the problem is in our battle against in three little things. Number one. Even though your old man is dead. You still have this flesh. Guess what? Your flesh was trained by your old man. And now that you have the new man, it's a little like, what's happening? So the memory is still there for it.
It remembers the old man, it remembers what it used to do. So even though the old man is dead and makes it really hard for us. And that's the problem with memories. That's why you have to deal with them in Christ. You have to deal with them as the new man or woman that you are. Also the number to the pattern is the system of the world around us. What is it there for the system? Is there to appease your flesh, your carnal?
With all its Rebellion against God. It's constantly working to influence, you want to sidetracked and distracted from fleshly things, to material things, you name it. And then, of course, the third thing is stating. He always wants to tempt you. He loves something. You knock out something, you Satan.
He wants you to think that you are your old man, again. He wants to hold your memories against you. Say. Hey, remember who you were? Yeah, I remember Satan, but I also know that he's been nailed to the cross and he doesn't come back to life. So you lose and he's like, oh man. Okay. We'll try this. Check this out.
So what do we do? Well everyday, here's what years was dying. Daily means you're going to have to deal with your flesh, believer. I don't care if you're 85.
It doesn't, stop does it? It doesn't.
What are Flash and in Jesus name, we choose not to walk in it and we walk in the spirit instead. Walk in the spirit, Galatians 5:16 walked by the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
But to your flesh, the things of the spirit are in.
The Flash doesn't really want to do anything with that, right? The flesh wants to flush, wants to just take it easy, My Flesh. I know my flesh wants to take a break. He wants to unplug. I want to, you know, Watch something, you know, something just entertaining. I wanted to take it easy from the spiritual. So that's my flesh. I'm constantly battling against that. And so, are you guys were all doing this together in a sentence? So we have to crucify our fleshly desires. We make it dead to sin, and then we die daily to it. But remember, you're not killing the old man anymore. Keep that in mind. You're dying to the pool. That is still out there on the world until Jesus comes until the end when you are in such a body where you will not have to deal with that anymore.
The influence of the memory and who your old self was and the world and Satan. So we cannot willingly be slaves to sin anymore. That's what Paul is saying when Christ died, so that we could be free of it. And we died to stay the night with them then. So, you have to reckon yourself to be dead. Your new man lives. What the new man is constantly under attack.
But we have freedom not to give in.
We have freedom to conquer and that's why Paul says, don't let sin reign in your mortal body.
We cannot go on church. We can't go on and habitual sin. Is opposing. The Greek? Does that mean we go? We can go on and I bet you'll send him. Just Grace will increase and then he says later on, I think in verse 15 does that mean we can just a balance in a little bit because Grace is going to Greece. I'm posting to both things. No, no, don't let it rain because you have power or not to let it rain.
It's going again against your new nature. And that's why I feel so bad when you do that. Try and go look around lying this week. No, don't do that. You're not going to want. You shouldn't want to do it. If you have a new nature in Christ. It's going to make you feel horrible and defeated and weak and that's what the enemy want.
And the reality of that honey,, please.
It's going back to what you were set free from when you start and say God's grace. And then oh, well, I can continue instead. You're going back to what you were saying. It's like going into slavery again, and that's insane. Isn't it? Why would you want to be enslaved again?
I don't want to be enslaved again. Guys II. Hey, I like heroin. It felt good. I'll just be real but I was asleep. I don't want to go back to that. What about what you, who your old self was? Do you want to go back to being dominated by sin and your life being under its control anymore? Don't you know? The Jesus freed you from that. Why would you go back to bondage? When you were bought with a price to be free of it.
There was an old African American woman in the South following the Civil War, and this is the best. Who's the best way. I can describe it to you. Being a former slave.
She was confused about her new status of being free from slavery.
And she would go around the nest. Well, am I free now or not? And she said, when I go to my old Master, he says, I'm not free. And where do I go to my own people? They tell me that I have. And I don't know whether I'm free or not. some people she said told me that Abraham Lincoln sign the proclamation but my master says he didn't because he had no right to
This is the place where a lot of Christians are right now. They are and they have been legally set free. From their slavery to sin. But they're unsure of this truth and they remain bound.
They remain bound to the lust of their flesh. They remain bound to angry, Outburst, lustful thoughts. A person can can be legally, set free, but still think they are a slave and act like a slave. It's just like a prisoner coming out of jail. You guys have been out of jail. You know what I'm talking about? Her prison, how long did it take for you to just be like, hey, can I I can just go wherever I want. I'm free. I don't have to ask somebody for permission. Right, you know what? I'm talkin about this being institutionalized and you were institutionalized to send but now you're not you're free. So act like it.
Can't think and act like a prisoner even though you're free. So Paul gives Very simple. Practical, advice for us to them. How do we walk in this Freedom? Well,
Don't let any part of your body, become a tool of wickedness and to be used for staining. Your members are the parts of your body or eyes or ears lips. Remind. You have eyes, don't put them in the service of Spain anymore. Have to, you don't have to look men and women but men you do not have to who told you that you had to. It was not Jesus. It's the enemy trying to tell you that you are still the old person you were before Christ, but you're set free. And when you realize that freedom in his pain is freedom.
Your ears. Don't put them to the service of sin. Well, how do we do that?
Church probably man, the gossip I guess. Or hearing things that you shouldn't be hearing.
You're in control of what you listen to you're in control of what you process in your mind. You're free from having to hear thing because it tickles your ears and to send. So, we present ourselves as God as someone who is alive from the dead. A new man dead ^ since and Alive. The only waste in will dominate you right now is if you choose to allow it to Christ died to the Dominion of sin once and for all for all of us for all of us, he died. So we won't have to be slaves anymore. So, I asked you Christian. Are you living like a slave when you are free? I just don't look at me. Close your eyes. Who's your eyes back in your head?
Do you feel like a slave today? Are you still living? You don't understand how we have it on free? I'll tell you you're legally free by the blood of the Lamb. You are set free. Don't let the memory of who you once were the system of this world or Satan, tell you, otherwise Or that it's okay to send because of the grace of God. And then you come in here week after week struggling to enter in. Because someone taught you it's okay to continue to do the things that you did, when you were not yourself and you are an old person dominated by sin.
Present yourselves to God and turn back to him. Stop acting like a slave and be free in Jesus name. Let me just pray over you, too. Because this is not really something that I can. I can't pray like I can't lay hands on you and deliver you from this. It's not going to happen. This is something you have to understand who you are and cry.
You know what? I can do this, I can. I can declare something with you. That's based on the word of God.
And it's very simple. Let's just, let's just in Victory with our prayerfulness on, with their eyes closed. Let's just repeat this after me.
In the name of Jesus Christ.
My old man is dead. And I am legally set free. From the power and Dominion of sin.
By the blood of Jesus Christ.
In Jesus name, amen. That's basically it that sums up the whole message. You are free. Don't you walk out here today and let the enemy think you are still who used to be if you are still dominated by sin and you cannot control your enslaved, it's time for you to get right with God and realize that you are free this week. You don't have to do with the world or Satan tells you to do or play one more time over. You father. Thank you for your Grace & Mercy. Lord. I Thank you for our church for this family. I think your for your word, help us to live as people were free and no longer slaves in Jesus name. Amen. Have a good day. Thank you for joining us. Megan's message will be posted on our Facebook page shortly after the service.
