INTRODUCTION
There is both a natural realm and a spiritual realm. We understand a lot about the natural realm because we experience and interact with the natural realm everyday through our senses. However, the spiritual realm may seem weird, or strange, or difficult to understand because we do not experience it in the same way we do the natural realm.
But God’s Word actually has a lot to say about the spiritual realm. The pages of the Bible are filled with the spiritual and the supernatural. God Himself is spiritual.
John 4:24 MEV
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.”
Even though we live in a natural body, we ourselves are also spiritual. We are made up of body, soul, and spirit. We are an immortal soul that will live on for eternity. We currently reside in a mortal body that will one day return back to the dust. But God has prepared for those who are in Christ a glorified body that will live on for eternity with Him in Heaven. Even those who reject Christ will live on for eternity in a place of torment called hell.
In addition to human beings, God has also created another class of spiritual beings, which inhabit the spiritual realm. We often refer to these spiritual beings as angels and demons, but they are referred to throughout Scripture as other names as well.
Even though angels and demons inhabit the spiritual realm, their activities often intersect with our natural world. Although we may not always be able to discern these activities through natural means, we can discern them through the Spirit.
Since we know that there is spiritual activity going on all around us that can affect our daily lives, and since we know God’s Word has a lot to say about the spiritual realm, it is good for us to study and understand what God wants to reveal to us on this subject. So over the next couple weeks we are going to look into God’s Word and see what it reveals to us about the spiritual realm and gain some insights into how the spiritual realm affects our daily lives. Armed with this knowledge we will be better equipped to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit and to face and overcome the forces of darkness.
This morning we are going to talk about the most powerful, amazing, glorious, majestic, loving, extraordinary, faithful, holy, matchless, incomparable supernatural being of all time. We are going to talk about the Lord God, the King of Glory. A study of the spiritual realm must begin with God Himself. We need to be able to answer the question, “Who is this King of Glory?”

MESSAGE
He is the Lord Strong and Mighty
The Lord is on the Throne
Isaiah saw a vision of the Lord on the throne in heaven
Isaiah 6:1 NKJV
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
Like Isaiah, when we catch a vision of the Lord on the throne
We will see the Lord in His proper position!
We will see the Lord in His splendor and majesty!
We have the confidence that there is no one greater than our God!
The Lord is Ruler of of Heaven and Earth
Paul wrote about the Supremacy of the Lord
Colossians 1:15–17 NKJV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Like Paul, when we understand that Jesus is the ruler of heaven and earth
We have the confidence that Jesus is Creator and Sustainer of all creation!
We have the confidence that all things in heaven and earth are in subjection to His will!
We have the confidence that one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!
The Lord is All Powerful
John saw a vision of the heavenly host praising the Lord for His omnipotence
Revelation 19:6 NKJV
6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!
Like John, when we understand that the Lord is All Powerful:
We have the confidence that there is nothing to fear!
We have the confidence that there is no power greater than our God!
We have the confidence that there is nothing impossible for our God!
He is the Lord Mighty in Battle
The Lord is the God of War
Moses sang a song of the might of God in battle
Exodus 15:3 NKJV
3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.
When we understand that the Lord is the God of war
We have the confidence that the Lord already has a strategy in place to defeat the enemy!
We have the confidence that we do not fight our battles alone!
We have the confidence that the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s!
The Lord is a Mighty Warrior
Isaiah writes of the might of the Lord
Isaiah 42:13 NKJV
13 The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies.
Like Isaiah, when we understand the Lord is a Mighty Warrior
We have the confidence that the Lord will march into battle on our behalf!
We have the confidence that the Lord is undefeated in battle!
We have the confidence that the Lord will always prevail against His enemies!
The Lord is Both our Front Line Offense and our Rear Defense
Isaiah writes of how the Lord protects us in battle
Isaiah 52:12 NKJV
12 For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
Like Isaiah, when we understand God goes before us and stands behind us
We have the confidence that we never have to run from or surrender to the enemy!
We have the confidence that the Lord will go before us!
We have the confidence that that the Goodness and Mercy of the Lord will follow us all the days of our lives!
He is the Lord of Hosts
The Lord Commands an Angelic Army
The Lord of Hosts is translated from the Hebrew Jehovah Sabaoth.
Jehovah Sabaoth
Jehovah = God
Sabaoth = armies or angel armies
Jehovah Sabaoth = The God of Angel Armies
Joshua has an amazing supernatural encounter with the Commander of the Lord’s Army in Joshua 5.
Joshua 5:13–15 NKJV
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” 14 So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” 15 Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.
We know this being was no mere man or even an angel, but was an appearance of the Lord Himself because:
Joshua fell down and worshiped Him.
He did not rebuke Joshua or refuse to receive worship.
Joshua called Him Lord, a title reserved for God Himself.
This being told Joshua that he was standing on holy ground. These are the same words that God told Moses from the burning bush. The ground was holy because the Holy God of Israel was there!
Like Joshua, when we understand that the Lord is in command of an Angelic Army
We have the confidence that the Lord is fighting for us behind the scenes in the supernatural realm!
We have the confidence that the Lord is directing armies of angels to carry out His will!
We have the confidence that, with the Lord as the commander of this angelic army, they will never fail in their mission!
The Lord Gives His Angels Great Power
God sent one angel to fight for Israel and killed 185,000 Assyrians
2 Kings 19:35 NKJV
35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.
When we understand that God gives His angels great power
We have the confidence that we are never outnumbered or outmatched by the enemy!
We have the confidence that sometimes the Lord ends the battle before it ever begins!
We have the confidence that sometimes we simply need to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!
The Lord of Hosts is With Us
The psalmist writes God’s message to us today
Psalm 46:10–11 NKJV
10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
When we understand that the Lord of Hosts is with us
We have the confidence that those that are for us are greater than those that be against us!
We have the confidence that greater is He that is on the inside of us than he that is in the world!
We have the confidence that the greater the battle the greater the victory!
