Revelation 2:1–5 (NKJV)
1 “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:
2I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;
3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.
4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
Busyness, in of itself, is not necessarily a problem.
We all have certain responsibilities that we must fulfill.
Being a Christian is only one aspect of life where we are doing something.
But what I want to address is this question:
How can I maximise productivity in being in Christ in a way that can fit into my life and function.
Firstly, lets take time to consider why being busy can be detrimental to the christian faith.
The danger of being busy for Jesus.
You become preoccupied with all that you are doing. (2-3)
You become to busy for Jesus. (4)
You get stuck on a road you will find difficult to get off. (5)
Finally, I would like to focus on what steps we may take that will see us maximise the potential of spiritual growth in a Christian’s life.
“I must take care above all that I cultivate communion with Christ, for though that can never be the basis of my peace - mark that - yet it will be the channel of it.” Charles Spurgeon
The cross is the greatest example of humility and devotion in the universe. Jesus put your needs ahead of His own. He considered you more valuable than Himself.” Chip Ingram
No one ever lost out by excessive devotion to Christ.” Harry Ironside
I am, as ever, a poor sinner, a captive of eternal love, running by the side of His triumphal chariot, and I have no desire to be anything else as long as I live.” Nicolaus Zinzendorf
Psalm 1:1–2 (NKJV)
1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
James 4:8 NKJV
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Psalm 73:28 (NKJV)
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.
Here are two remedies to compensate for a busy lifestyle.
With these two suggestions, let me say that what you are prepared to sow into them you will reap in maturity and growth.
Make time for Jesus. (2-4)
It has to be intentional.
It has to be resourceful.
It has to be consistent.
Your personal growth depends upon it.
Make that time with Jesus valuable. (5)
Make time to talk with him.
Make time to be in His Word.
Your quiet time is not about indoctrination, its about connection.
What you do with your life makes a difference.
