DISAPPOINTED
DISAPPOINTED
48 That very day the Lord spoke to Moses,
49 “Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel for a possession.
50 And die on the mountain which you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered to his people,
51 because you broke faith with me in the midst of the people of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, and because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the people of Israel.
52 For you shall see the land before you, but you shall not go there, into the land that I am giving to the people of Israel.”
DISAPPOINT GOD. DISAPPOINTED YOU DIDN’T REACH OUR GOAL.
Why does he tell us this story?
One of the main reasons for the story is to show us that Moses story did not end on Mount Nebo,
That he did indeed reach his destination.
His destination was not merely a place,
but his destination was a person.
DISAPPOINTMENT
DENIED
DENIED
He does not reach his goal. He is denied by God.
Have you ever been denied by God. What is it that you believed that you were supposed to receive but you did not get.
house
the car
the school you didn’t get into
the bill you weren’t able to make
the children didn’t turn out like you wanted them to...
We have all experienced denial so we can empathazie with Moses.
However, Moses wasn’t denied by his circumstances, Moses was denied by God, becaue he did not
sanctify him.
He did not set him apart in in the eyes of man. He broke faith with God..
That word should bring us to our knees, because have you always and forever treated God as holy in the eyes of other people.
But God lets him see something of the land that he missed. He believes God trusts him that this was the right thing to do to go up to this hill to die. Wait does this remind you of the ultimate story of a man walking up a hill to die. That’s a shout right there, but I’m headed somewhere?
But Disappointment and Denial lead to
DISCOVERY
DISCOVERY
26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,
31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.
33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”
36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
37 On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.
Moses met with the cloud. Moses meets with the man on the cloud.
Moses is allowed to see the land from mount Nebo so that one day when he is standing with Jesus on Mount Tabor he would recognize that he made it.
That his ultimate destiny wasn’t the land it was the man.
