Sermon 071397
Heb. 9:22 No Forgiveness Without the Shedding of Blood 7/13/97
ABCC
I. Introduction 580
· God declares that blood represent life in His creatures (Lev. 17:14)
· God declares that all creatures (including their blood) belong to Him (Ps. 50:10-12)
· God declares that the blood of sacrifices was for atonement (Lev 17:11)
Atonement – to cover; reconcile; our sins need to be covered & we need to be reconciled to God (Rom. 4:7)
· The blood of sacrifices was dominant in the OT worship of God (Lev. 1:1-5; 3:1-2; 4:1-4; 5:1-6; Heb. 10:11)
II. Blood and Death
A. God hates sin with a perfect hatred (Ps. 5:5; 11:5; Pr. 6:16-19; Mal. 2:16;
Rom. 9:13; Heb. 1:8-9)
B. God is angry about sin with perfect anger (Ps. 2:12; 7:11 [kjv]; Mk. 3:5)
C. God’s hatred for sin and anger about sin can only be satisfied by death
It was God Himself that established the sacrificial system – neither Adam nor Eve, nor Cain, Abel, Enoch, Noah nor Moses nor any other saint came up with the idea of sacrificing animals for sin. The one who sinned was to bring that innocent animal that they loved, nurtured, raised; that innocent animal that had done no wrong. They were to personally cut the throat of that perfect & precious lamb and watch it bled to death by their own hands. It was to be a reminder of the serious consequences of sin – death (Rom. 6:23); a reminder of the need for someone to die in your place for God to be satisfied – a picture of the Lamb of God that was to come to take away the sin of the world (Isa. 53:4-5)

III. Blood and Forgiveness
How can the one who has sinned know that he/she has been forgiven? What can take away the guilty conscience; that awful & dreadful fear of God that Adam & Eve experienced when they had sinned against God; that horrifying guilt that David felt in Ps. 51 after he had sinned (v. 1ff); that horrifying guilt that you feel when you know that you told a lie, cheated, filling your eyes with ungodly movies, been unfaithful, yielded to the lust of the flesh, eyes, boastful pride of life? Or even worse you know today that you have been faking it (pretending); you don’t really know Christ, you’ve had no real encounter with Him; you’ve never really repented of your sins – and now you feel guilty because you’ve been pretending all this time. What can take away that guilt – NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS! Hebrews 9:13-14 PREACH THE GOSPEL!
“What can wash away my sin? What can make me whole again? For my pardon this I see, For my cleansing this my plea; Nothing can for sin atone, Naught of good that I have done; This is all my hope and peace, This is all my righteousness – NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS!!
CONCLUSION: 2Co. 5:21; Rom. 5:6-10; 3:23-25; Rev. 5:6-14!!!
