What do John and Jesus do to prepare for ministry?

this week- the beginning of his ministry and Jesus’ authority

Nazareth

after his temptation, in the land of the Galilee

a short story with a crazy ending

Jesus travels staying at the synagogues and with whoever will take him in after he teaches and heals

The first thing Luke records of his ministry is his fulfilling of prophecy about him

The people of Nazareth are at first excited about all of this, but Jesus sees their true motives

he “passes through their midst” when they are trying to throw him off of a cliff

Capernaum

his word possessed authority- no one could find anything to say against it

he has authority over spiritual things and beings, the demons fear and obey him

he has authority over physical things- he heals Simon’s mother and many others

he has authority over the physical, he passes through the crowd and over comes the cliff and will soon create a large amount of fish

the people can’t help from talking about him and jumping to conclusions

Application

Jesus comes to teach and he offers something different than anything that the people had ever seen or heard

They are used to debate in teaching and they have nothing to say to this man

They are use to hopelessness against evil and sickness and death and Jesus overcomes all of these instantly

you and i can’t heal or cast out demons and we are not all knowing, but we have something significant to offer that the world does not offer
