We know that the Scriptures teach that Jesus was delivered up to be put to death for the sins of the world.
This was God’s plan from before the creation of the foundation of the world. This is the fulfillment of Isaiah 53:12
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
But thanks be to our God that Jesus just didn’t die…amen, Not at all, He died, was buried in a borrowed tomb and was raised to eternal life, and the raising of His life was that which guarantees our justification.
Listen to Romans 4, verse 25....
25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
This is the entire point of God’s plan....
With that this basis, I want to share with you the first 5 verses of Romans 5
So lets share this passage....
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
So what can we see from this passage?
Therefore… because of what Paul has already shared, we know this , God is doing something wonderful
That justification, which means that we are justified, made right in the sight of God. It is like we are in a courthouse, and accused of some issue. But Jesus took our penalty, took our punishment and as such we are no longer guilty.
So because of our justification, we have several rewards that are given to us.
1. Peace with God...
Peach is a word that is full of meaning, it is priceless,. To be justified, we have peace which relates to this new relationship that God has with those who turn to him by faith
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,
He was raised for our justification, so just as His life brought us a right standing with God so it means that his very life given for us is our peace.
We are no longer under the wrath of God.
Wow my friends that is wonderful, we deserved one thing, our life apart form Christ deserved death but instead we are in a state of natural bliss. Peace with God is given to us.
Now consider this thought....
2. Faith is the means of our access
Lets look at verse 2
2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
So again Paul tells us or enlightens us that through the work of Jesus Christ, there are eternal benefits that we are eligible to receive.
Jesus death burial and resurrection provides the access we have to God and his blessings by faith
So what is faith?
Let s look at Hebrews chapter 11, verse 1
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
I like this verse, it tells us that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for....”
So our ability to have faith… to know that Jesus is real, that He really did live and die for us… to set forth that belief tells us that our faith is an assurance. the Word assurance is something special...
Assurance, also known as the Witness of the Spirit, is a Protestant Christian doctrine that states that the inner witness of the Holy Spirit allows the Christian disciple to know that they are justified.
So assurance is the the by product of our faith, of our walk with the Lord Jesus.
So what are you assured of in your walk with God
A. Assurance of Salvation: 1 John 5:11,12
We can know for certain that we belong to God and are born again.
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
So ask yourself a question… Do you have the Son? Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
B. Assurance of Answered Prayer: John 16:24
As a child of God, we know that the Father hears us, He hears our prayers.
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
C. Assurance of Victory: 1 Corinthians 10:13
As a child of God, Having His presence in our life, we are assured Victory in our Christian walk.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
D. Assurance of Forgiveness: 1 John 1:9
As a child of God we know that when we stumble and fall, turning to Him in repentance, God will forgive our sin
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
E. Assurance of Guidance: Proverbs 3:5,6
Being a child of God, we know that God will teach us, guide us and direct us in this life if we allow Him.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
3. Because of our change of Life, We Rejoice....
Let me ask you a question here, are you happy that you are a born again Child of God?
I bet the answer is Yes, you know being lost in our trespasses and sins and now having been delivered is a cause for rejoicing. You were spared, set free and now all you have is life.
You know if you were in need, and in your despair someone settled the accounts of your debt, you would feel like a load ahd been lifted off your shoulders.
Now go back to verse 2
2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Consider this Grace Paul is speaking about.... Through the faith we exhibited when we called upon the name of the Lord, we have access to his grace.
Grace is where we do not get what we deserve, out of love we are given just the opposite, we are given life and all the while Jesus has been the one who received our punishment, He died baring our sin upon the cross.
All this leads us to rejoicing, because of the blessing that awaits us. The hope of the glory of God
God’s plan for us is to be in His presence, from the moment we leave this world and then forevermore.
Do you take joy in knowing that you are the product of His love and becasue of that love we are going to see His glory.
The glory of God… Remember Jesus on the mount of transfiguration, Peter, James and John had the blessing of seeing Jesus
But listen to what else we can rejoice in my friends....
Paul says that we also rejoice in our sufferings…Verse 3
