Galatians 6:7–9 (NKJV)
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves begin to turn, the weather begins to cool, and life seems to slow down just a bit. Historically, autumn completed the harvest. For months farmers would work the ground, sow the seed, and tend to their crops. After months of work, time, and effort, they would harvest what they planted. Entire communities would celebrate the end of the season with a harvest festival. Thinking of this reminded me of the Apostle Paul’s words to the Galatian churches. He used the idea of a harvest to show what we are to do spiritually. Just like the farmer, we sow seed all the time. How we live our lives, what we do with our time, and when we prioritize activities, these are all examples of sowing and reaping. We should sow our time in prayer, church attendance, seeking God, studying the Word, and spending time with the Lord. When we do this, we have the promise that we will reap. God will take the our seed of faith, let it grow into a bountiful harvest. This year seems like it has been busier than last year. However, God wants us to stay the course and never become weary or disheartened. Why? There is a harvest ahead of us. God will allow us to reap beautiful fruits that will grow into everlasting life. We are ten months into our Year of Prayer. I know that God is listening to us. We need to brace ourselves and get ready for the harvest He will send to you live and our church.
