In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Introduction.
Introduction.
Jesus is advertising the coming of the Holy Ghost, to a bunch of people who were happy drinking from a cistern.
They had a little spurt of water coming out from under the altar, and they were all drinking from this, in celebration at the feast. They said, “Our fathers drank from the spiritual rock in the wilderness.” They had hewed themselves a cistern, some stagnated water they pumped down from somewhere, and spurting it up under the temple there. And they would all get around this water and drink, and say, “Years ago, our fathers drank in the wilderness.”
Jesus said, “I am that Rock that was in the wilderness.”
They said, “We eat manna from Heaven, and God rained it down.”
He said, “I am that Manna.” He, that Fountain, was standing among them. That Bread of Life was standing among them.
And still they did not want It. They’d rather have their cistern; because, man had made this, and God had sent That. That’s exactly the difference. Dug themselves cisterns! (WMB)
Who Could Receive the Living Water?
a. Those Who Thirst.
“If any man Thirst”
(Talk about thirst)
Only the elected thirst.
b. Those Who Come.
“let him come”
(response)
c. Those Who Believe.
“He that believeth on Me”
(Not for unbelievers)
2. Where Does the Living Water Come From?
From the belly. “Innermost being”
38 He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. (AMP)
The original word for belly is “womb”.
We drink from him, and out of our innermost being will flow rivers of living water.
He was the Rock in the desert.
He was Hagar’s fountain.
He is David’s Fountain of Life.
For with thee is the fountain of life: In thy light shall we see light.
He is the fountain open in the House of David.
He is the fountain of living water flowing from every believer who has drank from Him.
3. What Flows from the Believer?
“Rivers of Living Water”
Rivers, plural, of water, singular.
One Spirit, unlimited resources of water.
Water for healing.
Ezekiel had a vision of water, which Bro. Branham tells us in the CAB the true bride will manifest.
(Ages)
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.
Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.
And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ancles.
Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins.
Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.
And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river.
Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.
Conclusion.
Are you swimming? these are the days when the rivers of water are flowing.
