A Couple of Caveats
A Couple of Caveats
I am not here to make a political statement. I am here to make a Biblical statement that involves politics.
You may disagree, in part or in whole, but please hear me out. If you vehemently disagree with me on something, would you please talk to me first before telling others how horrible I am.
Loving the Stranger
Loving the Stranger
“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
Love the stranger sojourning in the land as a native.
This means the stranger was also to obey the laws of Israel.
Who Is the Stranger
Who Is the Stranger
People truly seeking a better life.
People advancing evil.
People attempting to destroy our country.
Receiving the Stranger
Receiving the Stranger
Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.
Biblically the government is in place to protect the people.
Government has a responsibility of vetting the stranger.
We can disagree with our government but we must continue to honor it.
Personal Application
Personal Application
Don’t get pulled into division.
Look at the world through a Biblical lens.
Show no partiality.
Let us be a church who does not fall into division but unites on the Gospel and thinks about all matters Biblically. Let us be a voice of reason in politics and not an added voice of confusion. Let us exemplify loving and caring for one another and strangers as we love ourselves. This is the will of God in our lives and He will give us the strength and wisdom we need.
