Text: John 4:46-54

John 4:46–54 NKJV

So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.” The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household. This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

We are continuing our series on “The 7 Signs of John’s Gospel”

As we know, John is different from the synoptic gospels Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

Matthew paints Christ as the King of the Jews . Mark Shows Christ as the Son of man and writes for the Romans. Luke views Christ as the Son of man, and writes for the Greeks, but

John, so elequently presents Jesus as the Son of God, and the Savior of the whole world. John is a book catered to the word.

While the first three gosples deal with events, John thought it necessary to go deeper and present the spiritual meaning for the events. John, for example in the feeding of the 5,000 not only points out the miracle, but also points out the Message of the miracle in a later chapter.

This now, is why John uses the word Sign instead of Miracle for a sign is a miracle that carries a message with it.

John’s whole reason for showing the miracles is so that PEOPLE CAN BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF MAN.

It is in that first miracle where Jesus begins his healing ministry by turning water into wine. and it is there that we discover that Jesus would make the best wine they ever tasted, by only speaking a word.

As Jesus now leaves cana and goes into Judea and Samaria, as he is passing through Early in the chapter he passes a samaritan woman at a well and saves her life for the better.

Leaving Samaria, he goes again through Cana and here is where we find a nobleman, a royal official, who served on the court of king Herold, who’s son is sick unto death, and has somehwo heard about a healer, sets some 25 mile of a Journey, in hopes to come get Jesus and bring him back to heal his son.

Between John chapter 1 and John chapter 4, John only records 2 healings and a woman saved. I like this because it is here that we see that people are believing and discussing the great power of Jesus Christ.

As a consequence of the power of Christ, this man sees this as his only hope, to get what he needs.

This man is desperate, and because the people spoke about the power of jesus and the presence of Jesus he had to get to where Jesus was.

This is the KEY TO GROWTH, speaking about the power of Jesus, and where the power is.

If we know nothing else, on a Sunday Morning, Jesus is HERE.

This man makes it to Jesus and asks Jesus to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

Jesus speaks to the man and the crowd and says “unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe” HE addresses the Man’s faith, but he also addresses the crowd’s following.

He is building the Man’s faith in him, but he is also rebuking the crowd. Jesus did not Just want them to believe WHAT THEY SAW, BUT JESUS SAYS IM POWERFUL NOT BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU SEE, BUT BECAUSE OF WHO I AM.

AND THATS A WORD FOR SOMEBODY WHO SEES NOTHING BUT PAIN. JESUS SAYS I’M NOT POWERFUL BECAUSE YOU SEE IT. BUT EVEN WHAT YOU DO SEE IM WORKING TOO.

“Now faith, is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”

and I want to tell you early, even though he didn’t do it in front of THE CROWD, HIS WORKED REACHED HIS HOUSE. AND GOD’S SAYS I RATHER BLESS YOU SO YOUR HOUSE IS SAVED THAT BLESS YOU TO AMAZE PEOPLE.

WE ARE NOT JUST HERE TO AMAZE PEOPLE WE ARE HERE TO SAVE SOULS.

JEUS LEAVES THIS MAN WITH A WORD, HE SAYS GO YOUR SON LIVES.

CHECK THIS AND IM GONE.

THIS TRIP ONLY TAKES A COUPLE OF HOURS. SO WHEN THE BIBLE SAYS HE WENT ABOUT HIS WAY, HE WAS NOT IN A RUSH TO GET HOME.

YOUR FAITH HAS TO BE SO STRONG, YOU CAN REST IN WHAT HE PROMISED YOU.

CLOSE: SO WE FIND OUT THAT THE PEOPLE COME TO MEET THE MAN AND WHEN THEY GET TO HIM THEY SAY YOUR SON IS HEALD. HE SAID WHEN DID IT HAPPEN, THE MAN SAID AT THE 7TH HOUR AND THATS WHEN HE KENW THAT JESUS HEALED THEM.

AND I DIDNT GIVE YOU A TITLE EARLIER BUT MY TITLE IS.

LET THE WORD DO THE WORK.

I WAS YOUNG AND NOW IM OLD AND IVE NEVER- LET THE WORD DO THE WORK

FOR I RECON-LET THE WORD DO THE WORK

ILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU-LET THE WORD DO THE WORK

I WILL BLESS THE LORD-LET THE WORD DO THE WORK

HE WAS WOUNDED-
