Marred Hands Settled the Issue

The price Jesus paid for our redemption was terrible indeed. When we think of the extreme suffering He endured to purchase our freedom from sin’s penalty, our hearts should overflow with love for Him. Leslie B. Flynn told a story that illustrates this truth.

An orphaned boy was living with his grandmother when their house caught fire. The grandmother, trying to get upstairs to rescue the boy, perished in the flames. The boy’s cries for help were finally answered by a man who climbed an iron drainpipe and came back down with the boy hanging tightly to his neck.

Several weeks later, a public hearing was held to determine who would receive custody of the child. A farmer, a teacher, and the town’s wealthiest citizen all gave the reasons they felt they should be chosen to give the boy a home. But as they talked, the lad’s eyes remained focused on the floor. Then a stranger walked to the front and slowly took his hands from his pockets, revealing severe scars on them. As the crowd gasped, the boy cried out in recognition. This was the man who had saved his life. His hands had been burned when he climbed the hot pipe. With a leap the boy threw his arms around the man’s neck and held on for dear life. The other men silently walked away, leaving the boy and his rescuer alone. Those marred hands had settled the issue.

Many voices are calling for our attention. Among them is the One whose nail-pierced hands remind us that He has rescued us from sin and its deadly consequences. To Him belongs our love and devotion.

When You Know Your Place In Christ

John 3:29–30 NKJV
29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
The Friend of the Bridegroom can rejoice.
Knowing where you stand in Christ will cause you to rejoice.
John used a word picture from the custom of the day relating to the Bridegrooms friend.
“It was customary for the Bridegrooms friend to escort the Bride to the Bridegrooms chamber for consummation of the marriage. When the bridegroom reported to the friend of the consummation, he would then tell the rest of the wedding party so the wedding celebration could continue.”
John understood his place.
Decreasing is not a term that he used to diminish his relationship to christ.
It was a way of saying, “Jesus I surrender to you completely.”

The Hierarchy Of Christ

John 3:31 NKJV
31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
John relays to the disciples that Christ is above all of creation.
Know that we, as people, lack the understanding necessary to govern our own spiritual well being.
While the followers of John where loyal to John’s teachings, John had to inform them that Christ is the better way.
There is no better way than Jesus.
It’s about Lordship!
Who or what is the Lord of your life?
Isaiah 55:8–9 NKJV
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah reminds us that God is the better way!
2. Knowing your limitation is half the battle.
John didn’t say, ‘I’ll keep doing things my way.”
John teaches us that Christ is the way and we must follow him.

Wavering Decisions

John 3:32–34 NKJV
32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.
There will always be those that reject the Testimony that Jesus is the way.
Jesus made it clear in John 14:6
John 14:6 NKJV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
That proclamation has been rejected through out time.
Rejection does not mean his message was wrong!
2. Acceptance of the message will solidify that Christ is the way for you.
It’s in the moment that Christ changes the life of a person, that they understand the testimony of Christ is real!
No devil in hell can tell me Christ is not real!!!! I’ve gone to far to believe that lie.

The Promise Of Life Everlasting

John 3:35–36 NKJV
35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
The Father loves the Son
His love for the Son spills over to us in the form of redemption.
The Son has the right to stand in our stead, Thats part of the gifting the Father gave to the son.
It’s because of the Son that we can have eternal life.
It comes down to what we believe.
Is jesus enough for you?
Nicodemus had to wrestle with that same question.
What about you? Do you know he’s the way to eternal life?
Conclusion:
The love chapter of John teaches us that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. The message is simple put your trust in Him and he will deliver you from death into life.
