Luke 15:11–20 NKJV
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’ 20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

1. We have a father in the parable with two sons. we will find that both sons missed the mark, how they missed the mark was in their relationship with the father.

Luke 15:11–13 NKJV
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
Lets Look at verse 12:
Luke 15:12 NKJV
12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.
the goods don’t fall to you. the father is not dead.
the son saw the stuff he had no clue about the skills the father had that brought the stuff.
Galatians 6:7 NKJV
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
if he had the proper relationship with the father he would have had the skill.

in the Charismatic pentecostal world we have this idea about ‘unlocking’ the door. Jesus unlocked the door at the cross.

you don’t need your portion of the Goods if you have a relationship with Jesus! you need to get back to your relationship with Jesus!

You are not an accident! you are a creation! created in the image of God.

Genesis 1:26–27 NKJV
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Psalm 139:14 NKJV
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

God gifted you.

1 Corinthians 12:6–7 NKJV
6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
Romans 12:6–8 NKJV
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

God has gifted you for good works.

Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

2. Because we think it’s in the stuff and don’t understand that God has given gifts (skills). We will find ourselves in a famine and in a pig pen.

Luke 15:14–16 NKJV
14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.
how did we get here?
Luke 15:13 NKJV
13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
he chased his lusts.
James 1:13–15 NKJV
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
He was led away by his own desires.
tempted by His own desires.
when desire is full grown it gives birth to death.

3. The moment of clarity that changes everything.

Luke 15:17 NKJV
17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
@ the lowest point he comes to himself.
I am Hungry.
I am being starved.
this is not because I am a servant.
it is because I am working for a bad boss.
my father treats his servants way better than this, they have bread enough to share.
my prayer tonight is that you have your own moment of clarity.
I hope that you come to understand that you are a son or daughter of God.
you don’t have to be a slave to sin.
you can get up out of the pig pen of slavery .

4. He repented, after the son ‘came to himself.’

Luke 15:18–19 NKJV
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’
Come to yourself.
arise.
get out of your pig pen and come home.
